Has the board in La Ronge renewed his contract yet? If they don't not to sure what they will do for a coach.

Do we know for sure that his contract is expiring this year? Let's hope he returns for another go around. He is good for hockey in LaRonge. The club would take another couple steps back if they have to bring in a new coach. More likely a coach with little experience. Beatty is a rare bread that he wanted to come to LaRonge. Not to many high end coaches would think the same.

I agree madman...We are not in the business of hitting the panic button because we missed playoffs for the first time in a while...For the most part, I think the die-hard Wolves fans are satisfied with Bob.
Stars123: We will be taking a new direction...that new direction is UP!

Bob Beatty is a top notch coach and I really hope for the fans of La Ronge that he is resigned to a 2 or 3 year contract.

But his style is more of the old style that the league used to have, no with puck possesion and more offence, Beatty's teams are gonna suffer. Hes more of the hack and wack, crash and bang style of coach.

He does the best with what he can get. Laronge is at a major disadvantage, the best players often don't wanna play in Laronge. He makes good deals for his program and then no players show up, so he has to trade them away for cash. When your a good team in a good location, say Humboldt or Weyburn, you get good players wanting to play there, and you often dont have to work very hard to get them. Add the fact that they both have great coaches like Brockman and Mc Millan, can't really blame them for choosing to play in one of these places over Laronge? Bobs a good coach, he's the one that taught Brockman alot of what he knows.

A one year deal would be kind of a slap in the face...I think the norm is a 2 year with an option...

Right on Franklin .Bob arguably ,one of the top 3 in the SJ. Maybe the board in LA ,has a gentleman's agreement"Coach until you get tired of it"Bob is a veteran ,I'm sure he really doesn't care if he signs for a long time ,just a good time. He's not like a young O'Hara who needs stability for his family. He's already got a resume as long as your arm. Doesn't need the cash, doesn't need the headaches,no misconceptions about a shot at the big time.Bob for the love of the game!....if LA for some reason doesn't want him, teams wil stand in line.I bet Bob doesn't send out one application!

I would doubt there is a gentlemen's agreement in place. That is how he came to LaRonge in the first place. He had no signed contract with Humboldt his last couple of years. So why would LaRonge not lock him to a contract to avoid the risk of him bolting. Yes for Bob he may be worried about finding another coaching job, but the Icewolves organization should be worried about finding another quality coach to come to LaRonge.

Nothing against Bob but what about his assistant coach - he has coaching experience and worked under Bob for a year.

A contract is really just a piece of paper...If your coach wants to go elsewhere why would you want him anyway? You know his heart isn't in it if he wants to go so you may as well let him go...

A lot of your better coaches prefer one-year contracts, as each year they will be getting offers from other teams and other leagues. Signing a 3 or more year contract isn't smart for the team or for the coach. I think the norm is 2 years but if I was a top coach like Beatty or Brockman, I think one year would suffice. Has Dwight McMillan ever even signed a contract with Weyburn? I'm sure he's on the payroll as long as he wants to be.,

McMillian is a unique, because he is basically working for peanuts. The wings can't afford to tell him to walk.

Oldtimer ... I'd love to see Norm Johnson back, but the league has a few colourful coaches yet, like Wintonteak and Mann. I'll never tire of watching Mann perform his monkey act on the boards.

I am sure Gavin Holcomb is getting some more great experience under Bob, Gavin was the coach of the year I believe in Tri-Town, and I am sure looking to be a head coach in the future. Bob is almost certainly preparing Gavin to take over when the time is right.

I've heard the same about Gavin. Sounds like he had taken alot of the day to day coaching duties for Bob, so Bob could concentrate more on the GM aspect. Maybe that will be the change. Hocomb as Head Coach, Bob as GM next season?
