There has been a bit of chat about players who refuse to report. Does any one have an idea on how to reduce or eliminate this problem. I know all trades are risky but it seems sometime the coach may be encouraging a player to not report with intentions of getting him back in the future. What are some realistic rules that could be implemented? How about a D-list where a non reporting player can sit as a carded player that doesn't count in the 50 roster, restricitng him from playing anywhere else in the country? Any other thoughts?

That would be the best scenario. That list should also prevent the player from playing in US leagues. If the players option was to either give it their best for the team they're on or quit hockey you'd probably see a better product on the ice.

They don't? Pretty quick to put the onus on the teams and their "environment" maybe the players and their parents should value the term loyalty and commitment. I remember when you were happy to play junior hockey for a team.

Its becoming a monster problem that needs to be fixed! Its destroying the cjhl and creating massive imbalances from coast to coast. I would think it is fixable since only the bchl and ajhl, possibly the ojhl are stealing quality players from other provinces consistently. Make it so teams poaching players from out of province or country must return a player of equal or lesser value determined by a third party arbitrator and if one player doesn't report in transaction then trade is void. If said player wants to not report then his choices are either major junior, junior b or an outlaw junior A league. In theory this should be doable since most junior a leagues are on the negative side of the poaching problem....let's see if Mr. Chow will move on this issue any time soon, or even better hockey Canada because its destroying the game at the junior A level:-(

Lindros syndrome.... I don't know if it's as big a problem that we make it out to be, but it certainly is an issue. The solution;
1. Players pay a transfer fee back to the team he does not report too. After fee is paid, he is a free agent and can sign anywhere. My understanding is that it's the wealthier players who often do not report. hit the pocket books.
Or;
2. Lose eligibility to NCAA or CIS scholarships if they chose not to report. Fix em up the proper way.

I am requiring you to move to Nunavut to work at Mcdonalds, if you do not report you lose your house, car and whatever you may have in your bank account, fix you up the proper way! I wonder how fast the Junior players association would get off the ground if this "solution" was implemented

I think an association would be great for Junior hockey. It would set a fair set of rules between the league and players. Arbitration etc would be awesome haha

An AJHL dad told me that players get a multi game suspension if they do not report. Refering to Balog not reporting to Grande Prairie he siad Balog is poor trade materila because he comes with a suspension. Can anyone verify this? Is it an AJHL rule or does it cover more leagues?
