As per the WHL September 22nd weekly report it looks as though the Victoria Royals have reassigned F Brayden Oleksyn to Jr A. Anyone know if his rights are still with La Ronge?? he is yet to be put on their roster so either they don't own his rights anymore or is he refusing to report. Either way Oleksyn would be a nice addition to any team looking to make a run at it this year, did very well in the league as a 16 YO a couple of years ago with the ice wolves .

He is still with la ronge but has asked for a trade out so he has just been sitting at home. An inside source told me that humboldt asked about trading for him but la ronge is asking for fonataine and moro or marr and moro. I don't think humboldt will give that up for him

I agree Humboldt will not give that kind of value up for Oleksyn. He could be sitting awhile, unless a team is willing to give up some futures.

word out of alberta is that Martin is asking for the world for him. marr and moro probably isn't far off. He can ask for anything I guess, but will anyone report? he probably needs to be a little more realistic about his options. He already lost control of his 'best' players and had a bunch leave. but then again Martin isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer

Oleksyn's father was quite the piece of work from what I saw when the kids was in La Ronge a couple years ago. The kid might even want to play there, you never know. But it will never be good enough for the dad. I also wouldn't want Martin coaching my kid though, wow, I might have just talked myself into thinking the kid should just wait for a trade

he is a decent player but not worth two. just report and play. some kids would love the opportunity to play in the sj in laronge.

I'm with SWKOT - what's the rest of the story on Martin!

I see no system in place, no personality from the coach. He also went an entire 5 day road trip without speaking to his players last season, (although he probably needed to coach them during the games)

Martin is asking for a ton apparently. Which is fair for a player of Oleksyn's calibre, but at some point you just need to get something for him, considering he's not in your lineup.

martin didn't plan on having him in la ronge for the year. martin picked his team and although could use him the value is not that high. he did nothing spectacular in the dub. was a healthy scratch most nights. martin either has to drop the value expected in return or just continue with what he has. oleksyn needs to grow up and honour his rights.

Here's the case...Logan Harland was an in and out of the lineup guy with Saskatoon. Came to Flin Flon, played 2 games and looked like (On Friday anyways) one of the best players on the ice. Could be the same case as Oleksyn. Could be a really good Junior A guy.

In fairness to Martin, he learned a lot last year. Coming in to replace a "living legend" was a no win situation and because of that other coaches and GM's took advantage of his lack of experience. This off-season he recruited kids that want to play in La Ronge and so far have shown a compete level (minus the Humboldt game last week) that has been very good.
As for wanting Oleksyn to play in La Ronge, good skill level, however I would think it would be a bad decision due to the baggage he carries. Let the kid sit until a team ponies up a good deal. The ice wolves are off to a decent start and don't have any reason to trade him anytime soon.

another one of those hockey parent/coaches that didn't teach their how to play just put him on the ice all the time. he should not listen to daddy and just report. I'm sure he wants to play.

laronge ice wolves trade braden oleksyn to grande prairie storm for allan macpherson and future consideration. good trade for la ronge, they need some help on the back end.

macpherson for Oleksyn?? are you for real? that is like taking the prom queen to the dance and you get there and realize its your grandma. an average d man at best in midget for a whl guy who lit up the sj as a 16 year old? Martin not only got f*cked on that deal, but he got screwed by his old team! WOW. whether they are working hard or not, they can't get the quality players to go there. this deal is evidence of that. oleksyn should have brought at least 2 guys back, and if it was only one, he better be a top 6 guy up front or top 4 d man. I get his hands are tied with the location etc, but that is huge loss on a trade.

For as little as they got out of him, I have to wonder if Fiesel made any offers especially considering the Ice Wolves needed a goalie and the Mils had a surplus.

hahahahahaha 2 players for an average player that shouldn't have been playing on a top line that year. getting a player and futures IMO is better than not getting oleksyn back to la ronge.

IMO posters on here are thinking of the pre 2011 Oleksyn where he was tearing up AAA as a 14 year old, his skill set may be the same or even regressed. Now I hear he is a cancer in dressing room, confidence may have taken a huge hit after getting lit up in his own end in junior hockey and riding the bench in the dubb. Honestly I'd gladly take any player that will report and either be a top 6 dmen or top 6 forward....there's 2 sides to every rink

Oleskyn to Kindersley for futures from Grande praire. Did he report? I don't know this kids but what will he do on a team like KK who seem to be doing it without him?

oleksyn will be real good in SJ. but the price? there will have to be one more piece going next year to GP. Seel is a 20 yr old whose numbers are down, for a guy with 2 years left. I guess Rocky thinks this is the year. they look solid from top to bottom, but they still have an angry little man on the bench that can mess that up. until he gets them over the hump, can't see him guiding them to anything other than some regular season success.

So Oleskyn was called up to the WHL to cover for an injury - so they say. What was the injury - head ache - I see he is back already. Seems pointless to move a guy from a team that is competing for such a short time. I don't know how your team works but the AP's i see come to town don't have games that night. Our coach tries not to interfere with their regular team. I think that is respectful.
