So I was looking at the MJHL site today and it looks like portage is really really strong. So what happens if they come to the WCC and make it to the final? That would mean they played their way to the RBC but they are hosting it regardless. Now we still need two representatives from the west, how is this done?

That is a real good question. I can't answer it but I hope someone on here gets and answer! What if 3rd in the WCC advances, Might make the last 2 games of the WCC meaningless.

So in the old days it was the runner up if said team was hosting, much like La Ronge when it was in Dauphin, Dauphin won out, and they were the host, so LA got to go (2009)
So let's say Portage wins the league, then wins WCC, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but 1st and 2nd place would go, and the runner up from the MJ?

I tried to find something online about what would happen in this scenario. I believe if Portage was to win the mjhl championship and advance to the wcc championship and finish either first or second the third place team in wcc championship would be selected. You must get to the wcc championship to qualify. I could not find anything where an rbc host has played in an wcc championship since we went to this format. I hope someone can shed some light, as this has got me curious.

Can we just abort this tournament all together? Idk what they were thinking by bringing this in. To me all this tournament has done is lose teams much needed revenue. And also, much hype that the Anavet did bring. I always thought fans should support they're local club, and there was no shortage of that during those hard fought series. You always saw a sold out barn, and who can complain about that.

I think it was initiated by AJ and BCHL, they always thought they were better than the SJ and MJ. They didn't like the idea of them playing each other and one being eliminated. This way the two best would make it (ie: the AJ nad BCHL), so far this has not happened.

I agree with bronc03, If my club wins the league, i want to watch more hockey in our barn. I simply cannot afford to hop in my truck and drive up to fort Mac and watch my team

I agree I don't know how much thought there was for new format but bill chow should never have agreed to it. The current setup the sj champion now loses up to 4 home games of revenue and if your team wins the sjhl as fans that's all she wrote you don't get to see your team play again for the last month of the year after supporting the team all year. How is this repaying fan loyalty and generating fan interest. I know I would think twice before getting season tickets. Between the new format and 12 less regular season games from the days of 68 game schedules I find it hard as fans to stay interested when your home team only plays 28 home games a year and some months you only play 2-3 games a month at home. Gggrrr the endless rant. Don't even get me started on selecting a awful Estevan bruin team to act as hosts for the silly WCC, oh yeah I'm sure they're gonna embarrass our league on the 2nd biggest stage, a nice arena isn't enough, and maybe oil and gas money to make this a good decision by the sjghl. Even worse IMO is the kinderesley klippers hosting the WORLD junior A Challenge in a month. Maybe the leagues best club and one of the WORST at the gate. I cringe to think how this prestigious tournament that has housed 1st round NHL draft picks including #1overall nail yakupov. This could seriously tarnish the sjhl, cjhland the wjac reputation as an elite tournament. I can picture the final on TSN being played in front of 300 fans and for games not involving Canada 100 fans ugh I wanna cry at how far the league has fallen as what could arguably have been the top tier 2 league in north america at one time now the league is measured about on par with the mjhl and a step DOWN from BC and ajhl leagues....player after player refusing to report but who can blame them when scouts skip over the province these days......sorry, but I'm not sorry it can make a person sick to hold it all in lol now to forward post to bill chow and board of governors. Thoughts and differing opinions welcome but please do so in a respectful Manner:-) . let's make this a place where decision makers can come to see what fans are thinking in a non threatening environment

What league has the defending nation champion again? That's right, the SJ. I wouldn't get too deep into how far the league has fallen. You usually don't win a national title by coasting through a crumbling league. Players have been holding out and demanding trades for years. The changes in media coverage and the internet bringing every little rumour to light instantly make it seem like there are more problems but they're just more accessible. There are probably at least a hand full of teams this year that could go to the RBC and represent the league well and there aren't a lot of leagues that can say that. Sure there aren't as many fans at games as some of the teams out west but you can''t exactly change your location and geography plays a big part in it. When it's -30 and the roads are brutal some fans would rather be on the couch than in the cold. That doesn't make the league any worse though.

If they legitimately advance through the WCC then the 3rd place team would be going to the RBC as well.

i was not able to find an answer to the question if portage wins mjhl title and advances who is the additional rep? it another mjhl team or another team from the wcc? anybody no the answer. Manitoba doesn't need an additional rep, Portage is not the host of the WCC so they do not need to bring another team from the MJHL. Now let's say that the oil Barron's were to win the AJHL championship, then the runner up from that series would go to the WCC. Now that portage is in the WCC, three teams must come from this tournament. The only way you can win the WCC is if you place 1st or 2nd, they play for the cup. The loser from that match up plays the winner from the 3rd and 4th battle. the winner of that matchup gets the 2nd berth into the RBC Cup. But if portage makes it to the final, the 2nd berth game is pointless because both teams are going regardless.

The long and short is there has to be two teams from the west two teams from the east and the host at RBC, so if portage finishes first at WCC then the two and three seed will advance to RBC.

I think the tourney format benefits SK and MB as usually the Anavet cup is such a war that whoever comes out the winner is usually so beat up they don't have the energy to preform at RBC.

So the last 2 games of the WCC could be meaningless and the most important game of the week will be 3rd vs 4th IF Portage ends up 2nd or 1st. ANTi dramatic hey.

All teams are set for westerns, is anyone excited to see how portage is going to do against the powers of the west? The Cjhl had made the terriers out to be this powerhouse and maybe they are, but anything can happen I suppose

Not good to go through an entire year with what...5 losses....the competition will stiffen a might going forward...but worry not about the Terriers...I would be more concerned about how the Stangs mowed the competition down with "relative" ease in the SJ...no offense to Hawk fans....but I like Melfort's chances moving forward. And Hawk fans...get on board go stangs go L4D

It will be interesting to say the least as the final CJHL rankings have 3 of the 4 teams at the WCC ahead of the Stangs (Spruce Grove, Penticton and Portage). Yes rankings don't mean too much, but we will see.
Melfort all the way!!!

You will be able to say...hey the RBC champs knocked us out of the playoffs...its not much consolation.....but its how I've survived for 20 years. hahaha Brent Lethbridge

It would be easier to cheer for Melfort if some of these forum users were better winners. The kids on the team deserve the support but "some" fans are another story.
Tough one - don't want Aj or BC to have the glory to brag how wonderful and powerful they are - cause they aren't. Only leaves Portage - definetly best for our league if Melfort goes the distance. but I just can't say it - I kind of want to but it hurts my throat and makes my head ache.

Wow, Beaverstreet, good thing I am more of a Star City guy. :-)
Some Guy, don't succumb to peer pressure, I would have a hard time supporting Nipawin if it was reversed, not because of the players but because well it's the Whole Nipawin Hawks thing. You know what I mean. :-)
Stay your ground and keep the conversation rolling.
