Well done.
Looks as though Holcomb built a solid team for Blevins to take to the next, next level.
Good luck in Westerns

Administrator you"re not like the rest of us,you're supposed to be impartial. You're congratulations to the Mustangs is fine but the backhanded shot to Trevor is uncalled for.Gavin has been gone for a season and a half. Please give coach Blevins his due.He won the SJHL tiltle this year and this was his team! As administrator you should be ashamed.

Well done Melfort - represent the SJHL proud moving forward.
Though Holcomb was not around to see the fruits of his labour and maybe he would have not coached the team to the Canalta Cup, however the fact remains that a very large core of players that put the Stangs over the top this season were brought in by Holcomb through trades and scouting, which made the Mustangs a nationally ranked top 10 team through the entire year. So he does deserve credit as well.

i don't think it is a backhanded shot. holcomb built a solid team with i am sure the assistance of dwight. maybe he wasn't the greatest coach but most of the team was his build. it's great for blevins getting the opportunity as i am sure any other coach would have been excited to take over this team as coach. he was just making a point. congrats staff, but your not done.

Good point ADMin - I have been guilty of throwing in a crack when possible but this whole site would be better if the points were hockey, not personal jabs. I'll try to toe the line. All would like it more - Keep the reins tight buddy.

Way to go Mustangs!! I was cheering for you from the start of the playoffs (seeing my team didn't make it). Let's keep the WCC and RBC in the SJHL.

Hey I know all about the infighting in Melfort when Gavin was fired.I understand those feelings in small towns. The Hawks hired Gavin as assistant coach and he was nothing but a gentleman and had no bad words publicly toward the Stangs that I ever heard. But coaches are hired to be fired.Like it or not do not blame Trevor. You can't complain about his results. You are SJHL Champs! You should all be proud,he's a local guy.And a former Mustang.Good luck in the Westerns.

It was not a backhanded shot, congrats Mustangs.
I believe Holcolmb put something together that he could not finish and Blevins did the job and took care of some serious business.
I believe it is what happened. Whether you like it or not, it rings true.

I am fully aware of the rift,Gavin's firing had in Mustangville.Being from a small town I am also aware how personal these divisions can become. When Nipawin hired Gavin we realized what a good a guy he is.At no time did I ever hear him say a negative word about The Mustang Organization.Coaches are hired to be fired.Trevor is a local guy,he is a former Mustang, and he is the coach who brought you an SJHL title the first in 20 years. The rest is just speculation! Remember Mr.Administrator you are just a referee!

Remember Mr.Administrator you are just a referee! Actually, he's as much an SJHL fan as you or I and has every right to post his opinions of what goes on in the league. Maybe even more so than others because without him running this place we wouldn't be here to talk hockey.

Interesting side topic. The Admin man wants to share some thoughts - That is OK with me. Championship teams deserve their due regardless of who says congrats --- I just wish I had the power to always ensure I have the last word. I'm not saying he will or has used it. Just kind of joking.
L4D - last year you said, cheer your team, then cheer your division and then your league - BNice theroy - hard to apply this season. I know another RBC would shine nice in the Sask sunshine but - Melfort!!! A guy can only go so far.

Really Oldtimer, it was not a personal post by any means. No need for being sensitive about it. As for the Administrator having to be impartial...he doesn't have to be. He's a fan like anyone else and you're on a site he created. I would just let it go and accept the comment for what it was, congratulating the Mustangs.

Bricker was a cancer, teal was average and Heath would look good as a hawk according to hawkeyplayer(who's since retired). Well.... I bet they are sure glad they aren't Hawks. The garbargeman had added this earlier and the admin took the topic down. Not sure why...

To reply to Hawkeygawd= The admin likley took it off because it was name calling directly to a specific person - breaking the rules of the forum. IF garbageman is connected with a team it is a violation of the SJHL conduct, IF not he gets away with it cause he can hide behind a computer. Either way it is wrong - but only one has a policing agency OH sorry both do, the ADMIN man is doing his job. You could bet the farm that none of the 3 players in that picture were motivated to pose for the reason the pic was taken. The rink is empty, the crowd is gone, this was an after thought of guy with ZERO points per gmae. A pure set up by one guy without skates taking his last jab at a man he has learned to hate ( dislike) before he too puts his tail between the legs and exits the team, the league and the province. (loyalty). ?? You'll never convince me Heath has a bone to pick nor would he fly it in any coaches face, Bricker "maybe" but I doubt it. Never met the other guy. Johnson had it right all along, "Bricker was a cancer, teal was average and Heath would look good as a hawk" Maybe that why DJ will be here long enough to pay off a new house. Lets think it thru - Bricker didn't do squat to get the Mustangs to 1st place in the RS. Heath had the same points per game he did as a 19 yr old. +/-. Yes - He did remove a lot of scoring chances. Sobko - traded as an unproven. I would believe that when we hear "futures" and everyone thinks its money, I bet as often as not the futures are some unknown list kid who won't return a phone call. I've talked to kids who have been on 4 SJ protected lists before they even turn 17 and then they get told - OH NO - you aren't on our cards. But look at the numbers comparing all rookies Sobko 18 yrs old - 12 pts in 50 games = .240 PTs per game The younger boys Defensemn Doerksen 17 yrs - .241 ppg Arnold 17 yrs - .633 ppg Same age Bolden 18 yrs -.487 ppg Defensemen Wood 18 yrs - .351 ppg Bross 18 yrs - .288 ppg Hinson 18 yrs - .263 ppg 19 yr olds Dunlop - 1.08 ppg Defensemen Wolkowics - .326 ppg Adding another rookie for 12 points is just another mouth to feed. My point = Bricker didn't play all season, basically not in the equation Trading a kid who will miss 4 months of hockey isn't a high price to pay. Don't need Sobko when you have 8 rookies 3 of wwhom are defensemen out performing him Heath - offensively as good as he was as a 19 yr old - Put those stats on the bottom of your picture when you flash it around next time.

1 thing I've learnt over the years of watching hockey, is you can't look much into stats.. Stats can be misleading and there are so many variables you have to look at.. The players you are comparing could of had completely different jobs.. One may of been a power play specialist which prob would accumulate more PTS, over a player that had the assignment to kill penalty's and provide energy.
Also wasn't the trade Carter Berg for Heath,Bricker and sobkowicz? Because you like stats here they are: The hawks got about 20 games out of berg and 9 PTS... The Mustangs got over 100 games out of Heath, Like 50 PTS and a championship.. Plus they threw in Bricker (51 games and 10 PTS,championship) and who still has a year left and sobkowicz (51games and 12 PTS, championship)who has 2 years left still..
So Nipawin got: Berg 20 games and 9 pts
Melfort got: 202 games combined between all 3 players, and about 72 PTS.. And a championship... I must be missing something.. I wonder who won this trade.....

Mark my words. Sobkowicz will be a 40 to 50 point guy by the time he's twenty, maybe higher and he'll wearing a letter (likely the C). He'll get a Div 1 scholly as well. This kid is a stud. He was playing 3-4 line all year behind two extremly good lines, with vitually zero pp, but tonnes of pk. I expect he'll have a break out season next year.
Not to mention Stars123 - bricker likely plays 60-70 games next year depending on playoffs, and Sobkowicz with two years left could play another 100 plus games. Could be as many as 400 games - to 20 games.
As for attaching stats to my pic. Well..... okay 12-2 in the post season. 150+k in the bank from the playoffs.

The NAHL Draft is similar to the USHL Draft. Players from the SJ get picked, but how often do you see anyone go? Mayan won't go to the NAHL, it is basically a step down from our league.

I've been a big AAA midget fan and Prince Albert Minto supporter for years. This past spring I had an opportunity to attend a number of Mustang playoff games and was very impressed with what I saw. Nine former Mintos helped lead the Mustangs during this memorable season which says a lot for the Minto organization. I did some digging on the boys' individual accomplishments since leaving the Mintos to join the Mustangs and here's what I found:
1) Adam Fauchoux - 2012/13 Mustang Rookie of the Year 2014/15 SJHL playoff MVP
2) Regan Wilton - 2012/13 Community involvement award 2013/14 Mustang best defensive forward 2014/15 Mustang best defensive forward
3) Bryden Serafini - 2012/13 - Mustang spirit award 2013/14 - Mustang spirit award
4) Luc Lemire - 2012/13 Camrose Kodiaks Best Defenceman award 2012/12 AJHL all rookie team 2013/14 Camrose Kodiaks Best Defenceman award 2014/15 Melfort Mustangs Most Valuable Defenceman award
5) Justin Boyer- 2013/14 Team scholastic award 2014/15 Team scholastic award
6) Eric Young - 2013/14 - Most Improved player award 2014/15 - Top defensive defenceman award
7) Dakota Boutin - 2014/15 Mustang Rookie of the year award
8) Teal Sobkowicz - 2014/15 Most Popular Mustang award
9) Braxx George -
That's quite a list. As well, I've been told that the boys did alot of work in the community and showed a great deal of class and leadership both on and off the ice. Way to go Mustangs/Ex Mintos!
