Why is it we have to find out about trades and other news via the SJHL Forum and other leagues websites

Obviously I do not "KNOW" the answer but I suspect that SJHL doesn't have any full time paid office staff. Those who do touch up the site have other full time jobs from my understanding. And I feel the same way as you. I used to check the SJHL site for news but for the last 2 or more seasons I check all 4 western sites and get 90% of the trade news etc from one of the other 3 days before it is on the SJHL site.
It shines poorly on the league.

It keeps getting worse and worse.. It says the score in the Battlefords-Kindersley game was 3-2, the score was actually 4-2. And the Flin Flon-Nipawin game must of been a new record for longest game.. It still says its 1-1 in the first period.. Wow..

I agree the web site is not a good place to get fresh news however both of the issues Stars123 mention are local club issues. The stats are input locally during the game. I suspect a technical breakdown in FF and sometimes the last goal gets forgotten, if it is late or in OT the web statitician gets excited or goes home before finshing all the details.
The things that worries me is that Hum/ND PP's are way off.(as of Sat night) If the stat person only records PP when a team scores they will remain 100% on the PP all season. PP percentages and shots are only stats but after paying a bit of attention to it last season I think they are way off reality.
BTW Nip beat FF 5-4 in the Shoot out. Nip led 4-3 Shumlanski tied it at 4 with about 4 mins left and Spriggs was the only scorer in the Shoot out. I beleive Spriggs had 2 in the game , Dunlop had one and I don't know they other. I also beleive Shulmanski had one earlier. He'll be a thorn to everyone all season IMO.

Check out the SIJHL's new website. Real Time scoring Feature and overall look. Very professional and user friendly. The Superior International Hockey League is working hard to improve their product. Really good to see. The website is often the first contact players, parents, scouts, family advisors make with the league first impressions often become lasting impressions

Collectively, the fans of the SJHL must be more demanding rather just expecting the same old website and web casts. Last night the game between Nipiwan and Flin Flon was a disaster. The web feed did not work and for the first 6 minutes of the game no one was even on the camera. After the first 6 minutes the games' feed collapsed. Doesn't the league have standards for the webcast or its website? Players are accountable, coaches are accountable, why can't the league be accountable to its fan base? No wonder this league as trouble attracting and keeping local talent and scouts. I have been always directed that its someone else who is at fault for these poor quality web casts. I have watched OJHL, BCHL and AJHL broadcasts and they all seem to get it right. Email Bill Chow, president of the SJHL, or the president of the CJHL (president @cjhlhockey.com). If a league of six teams can put in the effort (SIJHL) why cant the SJHL?

The web feeds are done at the team level and all the people involved at the team level are volunteers. Volunteers who have full time jobs, have to take their kids to minor hockey practises, figure skating, judo, etc... With the transition to Fasthockey, there will be some learning as well as some tweaking of the systems. I was able to check out a couple of web feeds over the weekend and the video seems to be pretty stable, the audio was funky on a couple, but as the broadcast went on, it seemed to get resolved.
If the problems still exist at a team level in 30 days, my suggestion is to contact the teams you are watching to express your concern.

My favorite part is the background that's stacked full of a year and a half old photo of Yorkton winning......like really!?!?!

Updates from Flin Flon are coming with as much effort as a Leonenko backcheck.

Maybe they are deciding who to give the points to!

They probably should be allowed to decide since the refs can't seem to do it. In the game against Nipawin, Switzer curled in his own zone with the puck and then put it right on the tape of a Hawk in the slot who buried it. Two assists on the play.....

Watched the Hawks in Yorkton last night on Fast Hockey. I didn't get the name of the online announcer but he was good. He didn't know more than about 3 Hawks players but he didn't fake it. He just said their numbers and that was enough cause we know who wears what. Wasns't biased, just announced the action. Thanks to whoever you are!

Watched Notre Dame broadcasts on occasion and there announcer is top notch. Best in the business now that Crowe flew east. And hats off to the Hounds for fixing there score clock- you can actually see the time left on the clock and the score!!! On another note, the La Ronge announcer does a good job calling the play but when he gets excited his audio goes to full blown distortion. There video is vastly improved year over year but still room to improve. I also try watch the Kindersley broadcasts from time to time but than the colour commentator comes on and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Got to give credit where credit is due. Nipawin's online broadcast has improved 100 fold year over year. It even seems to have improved over the past couple weeks. Great job broadcast crew..... can even read the players numbers now! If you could patch your audio into the away teams radio broadcast you will be top 3 in the league (Melfort than Estevan).
On another note, Flin Flon please stop offering online broadcasts. No audio and a total pixellated blur. Either stop selling online video or ask all of the players to stand still all night so your customers can see something...... embarrassing for the SJHL.

sjhockeyfan, I'm assuming that Flin Flon isn't offering the online broadcasts, pretty sure that's a league thing.

Right, but Flin Flon should be obligated to provide one thats semi-watchable.

I think every team should be mandated to provide video that at very minimum you can see the puck and jersey numbers, unless of course the type of internet required is not available. I could find no speed specs on the MTS website but Shaw does have a couple of packages that provide the required upstream bandwidth. It is November and the team has yet to resolve this. Give your heads a shake. Maybe a couple of fines from the league would light a fire under their asses.

Lefty, I agree that every team should have a video stream that meets a certain standard. However the cost of the service is solely on each team (not to mention, the cabling costs, the cameras, the volunteers to operate the cameras, etc...) and the teams get very little or none of the revenue generated by the webcasts. If the league mandates a webcast, then the league should either negotiate an agreement league wide for the internet service it will take to run a quality the webcast or have the monthly cost be sent directly to the league office. Now if the teams shared in the revenue, then that is a different story.
As for MTS speed specs, my guess it would be very comparable to SaskTel's specs and that is already what most Teams in the SJHL are probably using.

Sorry, this is a long one. I am back on the soap box. I believe when we were with Neulion a percentage of each viewer a team had went to pay for the teams league fees. The teams decided to just do that instead of getting a cheque back from the league. Not sure how the new deal works. Some places like Flin Flon just can't get the feed to the Building. They have tried and it will cost a load of money to get it there. I will give them a pass. Maybe it is time to just shut that one down until it can be fixed. We here in Melfort have paid a small fortune for equipment, a lot of it paid for by begging for money (I'm not proud of it but We needed it). But here's the funny part in this. We have spent all the money we can and yet we get the lowest viewers head to head. Here are some comparisons. Sep 18, 2015 LA @ Mel : 69 viewers Sep 19, 2015 Mel @ LA : 92 viewers Oct 2, 2015 Mel @ LA : 94 viewers Oct 10, 2015 LA @ Mel : 76 viewers Oct 17, 2015 Mel @ Wey : 65 viewers Oct 24, 2015 Wey @ Mel : 59 viewers (Saturday night game, no radio, no baseball) Oct 30, 2015 Mel @ NIP : 64 viewers Oct 31, 2015 NIP @ MEL : 58 viewers Nov 4, 2015 Mel @ FF : 79 viewers (tried to watch) Nov 5, 2015 FF @ Mel : 71 viewers These are the only head to heads I have. So you see we spend more and get back less and don't complain how much it costs. Well maybe the board does at meetings but no ones tells me.

Come to think of it even if you got $1.00 per viewer it would d**n near pay for your internet connection for the month no matter what team you are in one game. Even if your money goes to league fees it is still money in your pocket.

How does the viewership compare to previous seasons with Neulion? Better or worse?

I don't think anyone in Melfort knows how to use a computer.
