With the current state of oil prices not sure how much money people have in their pockets for hockey tickets? Lots of people out of work right now.

I'm not in Estevan myself, but work in between Weyburn and Estevan, with several people from the Energy City, and they couldn't be bothered. Hopefully that changes once the Bruins get into the tournament.

From the people I have talked to they are pretty excited. When it comes to ticket sales I actually heard they are doing well when it comes to packages being sold prior to single game tickets even going on sale.

do the Bruins or Mustangs have a shot at finishing top 2? Going to be tough for the Bruins to finish top 2. I think Melfort has a shot.

I went in and talked to the office staff yesterday when I was picking up my tickets and I could barely get a word in between phone calls and people lined up for tickets.
They told me there was 500 tournament packages sold and single game tickets were selling fast. Not sure if that's overly good or bad, but giving the economy it sounded pretty good!
I am hoping for some big crowds at least!

I hope Estevan games sell out or atleast come close

It sounds like Melfort is bringing a bus load of fans in for Saturday afternoon's game and word is they are bringing a Pep band in for Thursday's game. The more the merrier

rink pretty empty this afternoon. If not for the Portage/Melfort fans nobody would have been there. Guess everyone is going tonight. Mustangs must be getting sick of losing to Portage. Maybe they'll get em in the playoff round.

I'm gonna guess that Brooks and Portage are the favorites to win this.. West Kelowna is no slouch either.. Nothing against Estevan, I would be shocked if they won a game in the tournament.. Melfort has a chance as well.. IMO this might be the toughest competition for SJHL teams in recent years.. Very good competition..

Melfort didn't play very good, Portage didn't seem like that tough of a customer. We need to see more games before we can call any favourites IMO

Melfort put some good pressure on them late in the first and in the second. If they can skate like that for a full 60 minutes, they can beat them.

What is going on with all the warm up violations? I see Estevan had one and Melfort had 3?? What prompted these?

I love it when the losing team says the winning team looks beatable. Well Melfort certainly looks beatable. They lost. And got 8 shots in the last two periods. And got outhit. 3 SOG in the last frame. 3. There is a reason for that. Check to see if that happened at all in the last month when playing SJ teams. It didn't. Portage plays tight D. I'll agree, Portage is beatable. They lost this year. One game to one of the worst teams in the MJHL. They have only 4 players back from last year. They can be beat for sure. But Melfort didn't impress me at all. But this is a round robin affair and one game means squat. Make it to next weekend and all you need to do is win a game or two and all teams in this event, including Estevan, could do that. I for one hate the WCC and would rather be watching a best of seven Anavet Cup right now with packed arenas and teams making some $$$. This Portage team is nowhere near as stacked as last year. But like I said, they continue to defy the odds and win. The coaching staff is second to none.

In the regular season in the SJ the refs are suppose to report the W/U violation on the game sheet with no consequence to the game. In inter league play the rules change a bit. Maybe the Sj should enforce it all year then no concerns in the WCC and beyond.
Seafood - it sounds like your an "easterner" so I'll step out. Looks like a few of the Terrier top scorers are rookies, 16 and 17 yrs old. Melfort has 8 or 9 20 yr olds and many returnees from last season. Portage has 5 20s and seem to be very young and new to the show. Please expand on Portage future.

Come here and be a cocky piece when you hoist the western Canada cup I agree with you on most of your points. Portage was the better team yesterday, and they did play good D in the third. Melfort did not look very good yesterday, but maybe that's because of how Portage played. I am sure it didn't help that Melfort had three players that had to sit out the first 10 minutes of the game for a silly pre-game violation. I disagree with you regarding the SJ playoffs. There were several games in which Melfort was outplayed by Nipawin and Flin Flon, but they always bounced back with a great effort. Let's see if they can do it again this week. I am surprised that Portage had so few losses this year. I don't think they would have made it through the SJ schedule that easily, but they may prove me wrong this week. This is certainly fun to watch!

Not being cocky at all. I said Portage is very beatable and could very well be on the outside looking in when the event is over. All I said is I think it is kind of funny when a losing team says the winning team is beatable after getting outplayed and getting 3 shots in the final frame when the game is on the line. Of course Portage is beatable. Yesterday's game, as I mentioned, also means little. The game(s) next weekend are the ones you need to win and 4 out of the 5 teams will be playing those and all 4 could easily win the game or games they need to in order to move on. But in a best of seven, I'd say the Terriers would have beaten Melfort. Unfortunately, with this stupid format and no Anavet, we'll never know.

I was actually commenting its no big deal the mustangs losing. all they need to do is get to the playoff round. Geesh!! Next time I'll write it slower so you can understand.

Can we watch the wcc online somewhere? I'd like to watch the goalie fight. Haven't seen one of those for a long time!

Brooks is hands down the best team in Estevan this week (even after just one game). Portage is 2-0 but it is solely through hard work and grit (for whatever reason I just don't lie them). West Kelowna doesn't play an exciting brand of hockey but are very consistent. Melfort needs to play better than they did in game one or they might be in tough. Estevan is playing the way they did all year - just not pulling it together...Wapple is standing on his head though which is good.
Brooks, West Kelowna and Portage for the two spots this year.

wtf is with all the penalties? 304 pims in 4 games...seems like refs are calling it pretty tight. I was expecting more of an NHL playoff lettem play kind of reffing. I havent actually watched any of the games though, so maybe they are good calls?

There is no video available for that game. Fasthockey says something to do with technical difficulties.
I was busy today and didn't watch it as I was going to watch later and download it. Was told sorry about that, but it is not available.
I would have liked to see a forward on goalie fight myself. By the looks of this it was a busy moment for Mr. Kyle Marino.
