Not that I saw the "hits" in the Melfort/Nipawin game, but I have noticed 2 things over the last few years in Junior hockey.
1. Forechecking forwards continuously have their body positions in such a way that they can never protect themselves if a dangerous hit comes. i.e. 2-3 feet face first away from the boards and bent over at the waist. It is almost like they've been taught this way. 2. Defensemen nowadays are throwing the cross-check to the player so that they go head first into the boards because the forward is protecting the puck first and not themselves.
Nonetheless the situation is dangerous and someway shape or form should be addressed.

I watched the game on Saturday night and the referee did a very good job call the checks from behind. The only easy any hockey player complies with the rules is that the rules must be enforced. I see the referees are starting to let up with the numerous obstruction rules as well. A hook is a hook or like the game in Melfort a holding penalty should be called at anytime of the game. That's how players will respond and the safety of the game, for all, will be upheld. It really hurt Nipiwan in the final minute, however, the hockey gods have a way, over the course of a season, working these things out. Nipiwan really took a hit this past weekend, and with three games against Laronge this week they could really hit a skid and find themselves in a precarious position. All is not well in the roost!

Discipline!Discipline!Discipline! Horrible effort across the board. Except Palmer. He was solid. Some very selfish penalties that's for sure. There is tha saying though, good teams find a way to win". Couldn't be more true in this game. Didn't deserve it, but found a way to gut it out at the end.

So was at the season opener sept 18 vs laronge. power play went 0 for 5. last night vs flin flon power play went 0 for 4. Power play operating just over 13% 2nd worst in the league. after 19 games into the season and a power play that was nothing less than terrible why is it that the same players are working the power play as in game one. In all the games that i missed did they try all the other players and found that they were no better.Do the coaches not know any other systems and thus must continue to use the same system, one that has proven after 19 games is not very efficient. While working a power play lets allow players to stay on for 2 minutes even when they can barely skate to back check because of exhaustion. aah! You can't blame a player, this is simply a coach not adapting. there are 18 players on the bench use them. it was very frustrating to watch especially seeing that there was no changes from opening night.

You can't spend almost a full period in the penalty box (16 minutes) and expect to win night after night. If they play the first 50 minutes like they played the last 10 minutes this team would be down right scary. Palmer made some unbelievable saves and again kept his teammates in the game. Time to buckle down as we have three road games against three team that we will have to play a full 60 minutes.

Mayan should've been given a star... 1 assist... Oh sorry he got his pocket picked last night that lead to mcmillens shorty and was on the ice for Youngs shorty as well. First star for sure.. Without a doubt..
In all seriousness tho. Palmer played very well last night and Melfort was dangerous all night... Very entertaining game. Kotchorek has been turning some heads... Has played very well so far this season after playing last year in midget AA.

Yea they are looking like a one line team. The line doesn't click as well without Boyer on it, they can't seem to get the cycle going with Boutin on their line. At the same time not sure Mayan is the guy I would have on the ice in the last minute when other team has goalie pulled, seems more worried about getting the empty netter than taking care of business in his own end. He isn't strong enough on the puck

should be on a hawks thread. definitely good trade for hawks. get a big body 6'3" 210 lbs for a player that no longer wants to be there. wood is lucky gets to go to a rbc cup host. if latoski can play definitely a good compliment to the hawk forward group.

Not seeing anything at all of a Wood-Latoski trade on the Hawks or Bobcats websites or Twitter accounts or the SJHL/AJHL websites....heard trade is in the works with Hawks and Mils ... Predichuk is the main piece for Nipawin ... Makes sense for Mils with a ton of 18 yr olds that can play for the Hawks to get the Mils younger and help them right now

Word outta Melfort is Blevins broke a stick during a tirade in the dressing room, and a piece of it accidentally struck Craig Leverton in the face, cutting him for 15 stitches. It sounds like the team suspended him for one game.
Darrell re-born or what?

Parts are true but not all. Certainly not 15 stitches, 3-4 and it was on the wrist. It also wasn't leverton it was George. Blevins suspended himself for as many games as George missed. And anyone who's played any reasonable level of hockey and hasn't had a coach break a stick is a liar. Unfortunately bad luck struck Blevins and GeorgE. It happened last game in La Ronge too just FYI.

stuff like this shouldn't even leave the dressing room. Every hockey player has had a coach kick garbage can, break a stick etc. This if it did actually happen is a total freak accident. Move on

Agreed... It was a freak thing.... There was no intent here at all...no one probably felt worse about it more than Trevor ... A player could have come in and done the same thing in frustration as well ...this stuff happens all the time... As mentioned shouldn't have even come out...

there are many ways of looking at this INCIDENT, as that is what this was. if to put in perspective the player(s)injury was the result of an ACCIDENT: an unexpected happening causing loss or injury which is not due to any fault or misconduct on the part of the person injured.
Blevins on the other hand has nothing to do with an Accident. The incident could have been prevented as it was an unfortunate event resulting from STUPIDITY, CARELESSNESS, RECKLESS, IGNORANCE, or a combination of Causes.
In todays society this is unacceptable behaviour. We have definitely seen this throughout many different professions. It is a matter of educating ones self and staying current with changing times. Coaching is rapidly changing as noted in Hockey Canada.

If this "incident" or "accident" hadn't resulted in the flukiest of injuries no one would be talking about it. The player is still here so obviously he doesn't have an issue with it. people that think the same way you do about this "incident" and hockey is why our world and the game we all love is becoming as soft as a marshmallow. Get a grip.
