- Not shocking Estevan is loading up for next season hosting the WCC. But gotta say I'm surprised Kindersley's new guy has made so many moves without seeing any of his players on the ice.
- The NAHL draft was this week. Travis Mayan (Melfort) and Aidan Teilborg (Weyburn) were selected. Both teams could potentially lose their top scorers.
- The showcase in Warman this year will have each team playing an extra 2 games counting towards regular season standings. Warman has a great facility and needs an SJHL team in my opinion, but if all 12 teams are playing, wouldn't it make more sense to have it in one of the SJHL teams cities? Switch locations every year so each team has a chance at some profit.
Thoughts?

They are doing it simply to make it easier for scouts from the NCAA to attend in person.
As for the NAHL, let's be realistic, very few, if any SJHL players go to the NAHL. This draft is for show only so I would not put too much into it.

Exactly Statman, the NAHL Draft should not be taken seriously. Teilborg and Mayan will not leave for those teams.

Not many players from the sj go to the nahl? I would check out your facts. There have been a lot in recent years, probably over 20!
Stars123 will have the actual numbers, please include ushl

One thing I wanted to bring up which I am curious about your thoughts on here: How do you think each team will do compared to last season? A simple better, worse, same-ish ranking.
Melfort- Same-ish Kindersley- Worse Melville- Same-ish or worse Notre Dame- Worse Flin Flon- Worse Nipawin- Better Battleford- Same-ish Humboldt- Same-ish Weyburn- Better Estevan- Better La Ronge- little Better or same-ish Yorkton- little worse
Obviously there is a lot of off-season ahead, and prospects, signings, or trades can still happen, but that's how it appears as of right now. What do you guys think? Guys from different fan bases, what do you think of your teams going into next year right now?

I can see Nipawin being the early favourites here I see a lot of guys in there linup making a difference. As for Melfort I can't see them doing much the Minions will need some help if they can make a run, lack of D and with 2 top prospects heading out of province it will be interesting to see what happens. I think Humboldt will be a little better guys will be used to Ryan Smiths coaching style... Which was a change from 10 years of Deano, with that and a hardworking team you never know what can happen.

I agree with the Minion comment. I think Melfort will have a crop of 19 year olds that will really step up. As 18's they were forced to play behind a couple powerful lines, next season they'll get double the icetime and I fully expect them to step up. Who's leaving province for prospects with Melfort? From what I have been told, all current players are coming back.

Stars123: Paul Soubrey(sp?) Connor Bucsis
There are more, 2-3 a year minimum.
I would love if they traded between leagues with us!

From what I have been told, all current players are coming back. Well, I heard that Lambert is going to Vernon, and Gunville to West Kelowna, I coulda sworn I heard that on CK750 among other places. Other then that I haven't heard much, other then Sillenger leaving the Mills and Signing with Penticton. It will be interesting with what the Pat Canadians roster does.. Quite a few were with Estevan I thought and one guy I thought had a chance of playing there next year Riley Woods has signed with the WHL Pats according to Twitter.

Other than 20 year olds, is Nipawin losing anyone going into next year? I heard something about one of their players not coming back for some reason, can't think who it was.
Yeah the Bruins did have several Pat C's on their list. Not sure how many will be there right away but if they get a few to play at 18 that would be interesting

if estevan is going to be making a run there will not be much playing time for the younger players. maybe more moves to come?

Eli Litchenwald- USHL (he came back to the Hawks for the playoff run last year) Dion Antison - also came back to the SJHL Brandon Wildung - is American so that makes sense Leclare got drafted a couple years ago (as a member of the Wolves) and so did Carre. They both ended up back in the SJHL.
This draft year 3 players drafted from the SJHL by the NAHL and 0 in the USHL.
Point being not a lot of players are leaving the SJHL because they are drafted by these leagues. Not a knock on the quality of the leagues, just a reality.

The Wolves have 16 or 17 returning players, being that they were only 1 point out of a playoff spot last season and a large number of 17/18 yr old players last year, the Wolves should be much better.

What does everyone think of the two trades that went down today between Wey-KK and Hum-KK?

What does everyone think of the two trades that went down today between Wey-KK and Hum-KK? hum- KK Broncos trade Joel, McNeil, Suzan to klippers for playing rights of Tim Vanstone,+ futures. Wey-KK W trade C. Piecowye, T. Brewster, 2016 5th & 6th Rd picks to Kindersley for 2016 2nd & 4th Rd picks & futures. Both trades seem odd to me.

So far this off season Hum has shipped out Kinney, Joel, McNeil, and Duzan. Haven't received any roster players back. Must have some good prospects in the pipeline. It appears Smith wants to build with HIS players.
Tough to gauge the Weyburn trade not knowing what the futures are.
KK has certainly been busy though. Curious if he's initiating all these deals or fielding offers.

To me, Kindersley got quite a better after losing all their big names and looking like a non-playoff team. Adding Calladine, Piecowye Joel, Duzan and McNeil will put them right back into that 7-10 range I think, whereas before it was somewhat looking like a missing the playoffs type of year. Grimwood looks as though he wants to build up youth this year while putting together a roster of 19-20 year olds to still compete right away. This way, he buys himself time to let the young guys come up and start his program how he wants. What do you guys think of Humboldt now? They have a really mixed roster and a big chunk of last year's core is gone, including no solidified starting goaltender after losing Romanuik. Anyone think that Moro and Kapelke could be on the block now too? Or maybe they run with Marr, Fontaine, Moro, and Kapelke and see where they end up around December and January to decide on trades perhaps... Third point, to speak to stars123's point of the trade feeling odd, I thought that too. I thought after getting Kenney they would build from there, then they trade Piecowye. Definitely felt weird. Must be pretty good futures.

Estevan only loses 2 players. So they will have to move/cut vets. Any ideas

I've been thinking about this lots since the season ended, and they've already moved a few out just in the trades. McLellan got traded to Dauphin, Sonne got traded to Kindersley in the Oleksyn deal, so that in itself combined with losing the two 20's last year makes enough room for the 4 new guys. Who knows what else will happen to this roster over the next two months though. Guys could be moved or brought in. Chances are a few younger guys will be brought in to keep it fresh, and by that I mean '97 born guys, so a few '96s probably have to look out.
What are your thoughts?

Seen on twitter the other day, Estevan signed 1997 forward Jake Fletcher from the Delta Ice Hawks of the PIJHL in BC. He played 39 games with 13 goals, 19 assists, 32 points and 41 penalty minutes.

I think their 96s are good role guys though. Interesting trade with Estevan and Klipps, exchanging one problem dad for another one brings a good chunk of offence. Wings added youth but will they turn out, super close league this year

Estevan's is usually later on. Last year's was in October, so we won't know until then.

I saw in the Battlefords newspaper that Connor Manegre has signed with the Melfort Mustangs... Kind of shocking to me.. He was Battlefords AAA #6 defenceman. Good on him.

Wow, huge additions. 2nd top scoring defenceman in the province and one of if not the top all round forward in Sask. both wore letters for AAA's Huge.. Thanks for that.
