Figured I'd get the annual thread going. Melfort's schedule is: Thursday May 9th, 5:30pm versus Miramichi Timberwolves (MHL). Saturday May 11th, 10:00am versus Winkler Flyers (MJHL). Tuesday May 14th, 10:00am versus Sioux Lookout Bombers (SIJHL). Wednesday May 15th, 5:30pm versus Oakville Blades (Host from the OJHL). Quarter final games are Friday May 17th, 2:00pm and 5:30pm. Semi final games are Saturday May 18th, 2:00pm and 5:30pm. Final is Sunday, May 19th at 1:00pm. All times posted are CST (Saskatchewan time). I tried finding information on live streams. You might want to sit down for this.....$14.99 per game now, plus tax. Hockey Canada Apparently they have tournament passes for live streams, but I cannot find solid price info. www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/livestream-info show a price range of $39.99 to $104.99, but then in the FAQ says it is $39.99. I'm sending an email for clarification and I'll update once I hear back. If the tourney passes are indeed only $40, then I will rescind my prior emoji as I think that is fair. The final game will not be live streamed, only shown on TSN.

I'm sure I'll be embarrassed when I get the answer to this question but with BCHL out how did they maintain 10 teams or was there 11 teams in the past?

The BCHL left the CJHL prior to this tournament switching to the current format instead of having regional representation.

Hockey Canada Live stream $14.99 single game Tournament pass $39.99 for just your team $104.99 tournament pass (all games) This is what gather from hockey Canada horrible description of a pricing page. www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/livestream-info

As fee structure goes, that would make sense. Hockey Canada's website is about on par with government websites when it comes to ease of use. If your interpretation is correct, I think that price point is still a bit spendy.
Got one useless auto generated response from the email on their stream site. Still no response from their main contact form. Not going to hold my breath.

I think we have a good shot. We will need Venne to play like he did against the Bombers pretty much every game but he’s been dialed in, hopefully he can carry that to Ontario. It is hard to predict what’s going to happen without BC and Brooks there.

Never did get a response to either of my inquiries. But as of today there are 3 purchase options showing up for the tourney. Single game, season pass and tourney pass. The tourney pass is $105.

It’s really too bad Hockey Canada has to gouge for every penny they can get. When Estevan hosted the streams were free to watch. I’d imagine viewership is way down compared to years before. Which Leads to less exposure.

Which Leads to less exposure. Absolutely. It is greedy while at the same time being absolutely piss poor business sense. It is like they don't even know their audience or what they are selling and they are leaving money on the table by trying to milk player's families and the few die hard fans. As a casual SJHL fan I would have dropped $40 for a tourney pass without question and caught whatever I could while multitasking. If the Mustangs go all the way to the semi final that would be $90 for individual streams, so the tourney pass isn't going to appeal to most people. And at the same time there's no way I'm shelling out $15 a game if I've got anything else at all on the go. As it stands I think I may watch one round robin game and will consider another if they make the semi final. Hockey Canada has their head wedged firmly up their arse. But I'm sure most here already knew that.

I was at the RBC in Portage in 2016 when the Mustangs were there and Hockey Canada was gouging everyone and had their fingers in everything. For example: 1. The 50/50 for each game. Winner got 50% of the pot, Portage got 25% for all their work selling tickets and Hockey Canada got the remaining 25% for doing nothing. 2. Each team had team pictures taken and individual pictures of each players. Team pictures were $400.00 and individual pictures were $275.00.
When the Regina Pats hosted the Memorial Cup in 2018 Hockey Canada also took a chuck of the 50/50. Every game had jerseys from former WHL, OHL and QMJHL players and you could buy tickets to win the jerseys and they got the proceeds. Jacob Wasserman who was in the Humboldt Bronco crash had played for the Pats and one of the games the Pats had his Pats jersey which you could buy tickets for. The Pats did this and gave the money to him. But Hockey Canada would not allow the Pats to announce the winning ticket at the game. So the Pats had to post the winning ticket at the souvenir store the next day. I can only imagine the prices for team pictures this year. If anyone know post it on this tread.

The Mustangs are my least favorite team because of my mailing address but geez, i think they deserve more love than they are getting on this board.
They are shining at the best time of the season. I sure didn't think they would ever be two wins away from a national championship when watching them over the winter. But what to go Mustangs.

Hopefully they can use their schedule to their advantage resting the big guns while the other teams beat each other up.

There are a lot of SJHL self loathers who love to come on the boards and speak about how uncompetitive the SJ is , and we have Melfort thriving on the National stage right now , and the boards are basically mute. Obviously they haven't booked a ticket to the finals just yet , but this is a fun , talented team you'd figure fans could rally behind. Winning is always great for marketing your league. I know i'm into it , so are my kids for that matter. Would love to see them in the big game Sunday.
