I have posted the question on the MJHL site. Steelers were the best team in the league, full of 20 year old 'Dub players. Andrew Leslie, formerly of the Moose Jaw Warriors was their #1 goalie, but has gone down with a groin injury in round 1. Steelers picked up another 20 yr old goalie, Cody Didychuk as insurance from the worst team in the MJ, the Southeast Blades. had a so/so record in regular season, but has gone 5-0 in the playoffs. The Steel were lead by the Howirth twins, who are loose cannons. Yes they can score in Junior A, but didn't do much in the 'dub.
As for the Kings, they had no offensive superstar's until the trade deadline (had Mikael Bedard and was traded to LaRonge) The Kings picked up the rights to Corey Courchene from the SouthEast Blades, who was playing with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Spokane Chiefs, and reported to the Kings. He was an offensive powerhouse who put up 33 Pts in 19 games. Kings are also led by Josh Schellenberg, Jeff Neustaeter and Zach Mertens up front along with Courchene and 18 yr old Joel Malchuk, who played in Yorkton with the WJAC team West. On the D, a beloved player that is familiar to all SJ teams, Kyle Lundale along with Jeff Penner, Kyle Lopez and former 'dub blueliner, Tyler Harder. Kings have solid goaltending with 20 yr old Shawn Monette from Quebec and local fav 18 yr old Adrian Rubiniuk.
This was to be a rebuilding year for the Kings, and they went through alot of struggles in November when GM and Coach Doug Hedley left(for whatever reason). The Kings still managed to play well, and fought hard to the end to finish 1st again in the Sherwood Division(North)
Steelers had a cake walk in the playoffs. They are currently ranked #4 in the country. They defeated the Winkler Flyers 4-1, and the Winnipeg Saints 4-0 to be crowned Addison Division Champs (south)
The Kings had a battle with 1st time playoff hopefull's, the Waywayseecapo Wolverine's led by former Bomber goalie, Mike Nichol, finally defeating the Wolves 4-3 in a hard fought series, which all the home teams won their games in this series. The Kings went on to face the Neepawa Natives and like Humbolt, went up 3-0, only to finally claim their 4th win in game 6 to move onto the Turnbull Cup championship.
