VANCOUVER (CP) - Medicine Hat's Derek Dorsett faces a possible suspension from the Western Hockey League final after being penalized for biting Vancouver forward Kenndal McArdle in Game 4 of the series.
Dorsett, a reknown agitator, received a five-minute match penalty and game misconduct for biting McArdle at 19:07 of the second period of Vancouver's 4-0 win over the Tigers..
The WHL automatically reviews match penalties. But Dorsett pleaded innocent and said he didn't actually bite McArdle's finger.
"His finger was right in my mouth," Dorsett told reporters. "I don't know if it was the right call that was made. They've got to look at both sides.
"It was a facewash and he stuck his finger right in my mouth. I've got the scars to prove it."
The infraction led to the first of three Vancouver power-play goals in the third period as the Giants evened the best-of-seven series at 2-2.
"He crossed the line," said McArdle. "I'm not really going to comment on it. As for the league, I'm confident they'll make the right disciplinary decision."
McArdle and Dorsett have battled throughout the series. At the start of Game 2 on Saturday, Dorsett challenged McArdle to a fight but then stepped aside and as heavyweight defenceman Jordan Benfeld took on the Vancouver winger, who is the Giants' second-leading playoff scorer.
Game 5 in the series goes Friday in Vancouver, with or without Dorsett.
