Read this on the blog of a Vancouver sports writer Peter Tessier. www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Peter-Tessier/They-are-coming-home--The-Coyotes-ARE-returning-to-Winnipeg/119/26818Not sure if that link works but you can google for the article. It's about the Phoenix Coyotes being moved to Winnipeg. Name change in order. This would result in the Moose moving to Saskatoon and the Blades moving to Estevan. Pretty far fetched but haven't heard anything about this in Estevan. Rumours of an NHL team moving to Winnipeg were centred around it being Atlanta but now it seems as though it is Phoenix moving back and a domino effect. You can discuss this if you want but with Estevan's new arena with over 20 corporate boxes and seating around 2000 is it big enough to house the Blades. Is there enough support for a WHL team there. Attendance would state otherwise. Economy is great but you still need to put people in the seats. Estevan doesn't even have a AAA Midget program so how or why would the WHL even consider such a move. I know it won't happen but it is being discussed on someone else's blog and not initiated here in Estevan so why would they bring it up? Some interesting things to ponder. Estevan is growing but not that fast.

I'm from Manitoba and I have been hearing lots of rumors. Rumor had it that Gary was in Winnipeg last week. I don't belive anything of this because I don't see the people from Winnipeg filling the seats at the MTS every game. So who really knows whats going to happen.

I just found it interesting as this rumour is not started from here but from out of Vancouver. I would call BS if it was from here. But why would anyone in there right mind include it in the story unless it has some sort of validity.
Doesn't even know how to spell Estevan right. So probably not a lot of research done on it and that is why I stated it as rumour. Far-fetched but could happen. You could probably get 22-2500 in the new Estevan rink when packed. Is that even big enough for what is being rumoured.

like I said, I'm from Winnipeg I would rather watch a Moose game because they average around 8,000 fans a game. If there is a NHL teams coming to Winnipeg I don't see them having 15,000 fans every game. So I don't see whats the point having a NHL team then. Look at the 2 junior A teams they have in the city they only average around 200 to 300 fans per game, thats even in the playoffs too. I agree its all BS.

could saskatoon be able to have a dub and the moose??
It would be sweet to jets back in winnipeg not going to lie about that. since I don't remember the jets at all. But I see the league giving Pheonix another try with a good owner. I don't see Gary moving the team back to Winnipeg wouldn't that be bad on his part. 1996 moves team to Pheonix, 2010 (or in the next couple of years) back to Winnipeg would be a bad move on Gary. A team is going to Hamiton before Winnipeg.

I wish, I wish, I wish... Too bad my wife doesn't have red slippers and come from Oz...then maybe there would be a slimmest of possibilities. Despite a new arena, I can't see this as anything other than gossip.

2825 hockey event level seating for the new arena in Estevan. I got this figure off the Bruins website.
24 luxury suites. Lounge overlooking the ice surface.
Is that big enough for a dub team. It may be realistic considering Moose Jaw has survived with less.
Also with all the boom going on currently over 11000 people in Estevan and wait until this summer is over with another 100 wells going up, huge project out at the plant and the expansion to the school.
We all know there is lots of cash in the area. Sponsorship would not be a problem. It would be affordable for teams to travel to and from Estevan. It may be a pipe dream but it could be very doable.
Remember this rumour was started from a columnist in Vancouver not from anyone related to the WHL or SJHL. It could be a very interesting year.
