Was looking at the Stat page for the playoffs and the attendance looks pretty sad. Melfort has had one game and attendance was better than some other teams two game totals. I never followed the SJ very closely till this year, was the attendance better in previous years?

So far the numbers are favouring last year's playoffs, but there is lots of time yet. It's something I am keeping track of and will analyze a bit more once it is all said and done. Right now it is hard to really paint much of a picture because some teams have only played 1 game. Doing a direct comparison of early round number from last year vs this year's survivor series:
Estevan is down about 300. Notre Dame is down over 200 (minimal outside support vs Nipawin). Nipawin was down about 325 (again, minimal support from ND). Flin Flin was down about 275.
As of right now, Kindersley is down about 250 after their first two games. Absurd because this is being touted as the best matchup presently on the go aside from the fact that Kindersley is a much better team this year.
So far Battleford is up about 300 over last year's survivor series. Not surprising considering last year they were basically just fodder in the survivor series and this year they have a legit shot.
Melfort's first game is up substatially from last year's average. 400 or so.
Humboldt's first was up a bit as well, 150 or so.
Yorkton is more or less the same, and I'd expect Melville to be as well (or possibly down a bit, depends how fed up people get with this new ticketing system).

If you counted everyone twice, then yes 1400.

We're those seats ever filled in that barn tonight. Have to say 1400 - 1500 by the looks of things. Can you get a better athmosphere? Even Coming from a Broncos fan those garbage cans kinda give me chills. I cannot imagine what it feels like do be one of them kids lacing em up. Almost reminds me of a college athmosphere. Hope the EPA rocks as much as the Palace did tonight.

Gotta say the Stars' crowds were great for both games against Estevan so far.

Gotta say the Stars' crowds were great for both games against Estevan so far. Good to hear because playoff hockey isn't the same without some noise. Making the trip to the EPA tonight and I'm expecting a bonkers crowd there as well

I like the garbage can crew. Very annoying to the visiting team so I would love them on our side. But they are good fans.
Last season the SJHL bragged about the playoff attendance being up 44%. Does anyone know if that was over the previous year playoffs over over the same season regular season. I don't think they will get to make that claim this year. OR was it more of a conjured up number to impress the advertisers?

Couldn't sleep last night so I updated my average attendance numbers: -Battleford was up 575 -Melfort was up 540 -Kindersley was down 221 -Estevan was down 646 -Humboldt was down 76 -Flin Flon was down 407 -Nipawin was down 354
Melville and Yorkton are currently both down 338, and 190 respectively. Total average attendance is currently down 130. If this next series goes to 7 with Yorkton drawing 2000 and Melville 1850, Yorkton will end up 100 up and Melville about 50 down. That would bring total average attendance to about 15 more than last season.
There are 2 games missing attendance numbers from this year's playoffs (Humboldt and Estevan home games) and one from last year (Humboldt).

Last season the SJHL bragged about the playoff attendance being up 44%. Does anyone know if that was over the previous year playoffs over over the same season regular season. I don't think they will get to make that claim this year. OR was it more of a conjured up number to impress the advertisers? Interesting comments from Bill Chow after the AGM. He claims playoff attendance was up 60% this year. I'm curious where these numbers come from because taken as a blanket statement regarding the SJHL playoffs, that is simply not true if the basis is a year on year comparison. Misrepresentation, misinformation or outright lie? I regrettably filed the paper I had my attendance numbers on prior to the league final so I can't post 100% accurate numbers with how things shaped up. I was expecting a total league wide attendance increase of 15 people per game if the final went to 7 with Yorkton drawing 2000 and Melville 1850. Both teams averaged about 100 better than I expected but the final was only 4 games instead of 7, so I expect 15 would still be in the ballpark. Certainly not even remotely close to a 60% increase. Heck I'm pretty sure the regular season averages were down too based on the information available.
