Wow some teams are busy. If the players move that fast on the ice it should be an exciting year to watch - What is a player development fee? Is it just a nice way of saying cash? In my understanding, a "Player Development Fee" is different from cash because those are usually seen in trades between leagues. But yeah its just a term for cash I think.

Kindersley keeps bringing in players they've brought in Hinson and Uhrich from Nipawin. For. First round next year and a 3rd round.. I guess Grimwood is putting his own touch to his team

Sooooooooooo Weyburn dealt Kenney to Ontario. Maybe he refused to report? That's too bad.

Sooooooooooo Weyburn dealt Kenney to Ontario. Maybe he refused to report? That's too bad. I highly doubt that's the case. Typically GM's don't finalize trades with out knowing the players intentions. If a GM trades a player that doesn't report, he's gonna earn a bad rep and other GM's wont want to trade with him. Who knows, maybe Kenney requested to go back to Ontario. Tough to say without knowing what the futures are.

I am really interested to see how these teams that are making moves turn out. Flin Flon is interesting because they lost so many 20 year olds, so how do they retool? I am sure that Lischinsky kid will be back hey?
And Kindersley is going crazy with moves. I saw their old radio guy Gutenberg post something that like 17 roster players from last year are gone and 2 coaches or something. Wow! Weyburn is a curious case to me, and I wonder how Melville is going to structure their roster too

Any word on other WHL players coming to any team around the league? That league has been pretty active over the last couple days with trades and guys getting cut.

the Bombers have a few guys returning, Smith, Kocur, Switzer who can all put up a point a game, a little tinkering on the back end with Webb from the Klippers, Roche, Etter, Lacousiere, Masson. a few good rookies on their way, trade the rights for Lischinski for equal value .Goalie Hofly returning... bombers will be in the mix if they have any kinda of compete level at all...playoff team...as usual.... So that's 5 more years including this year, for a coach with ONE playoff series win? Must be confident in him.

Bruins will finish at the top this year because they are going for it for Westerns. They will lose multiple big time players after this year, and slide down the standings.

The way it looks for me, they will be amongst the top of the standings for 2-3 years now. Hard to predict farther than that though.

Hard to predict what's happening this year, let alone 2 years from now.... Junior A hockey is very hard to predict. So many variables... Never know what other teams have coming in until camps open. Could be a very interesting year as far as recruits go.

I agree with Stars 123. I know some teams are - and would suspect that all are - making moves but they are not getting broadcast. If they are not it will show in October.
As far as loosing money - I wonder if those "run for the cup teams" loose money simply because they are buying players and sweetening the deals to get who they want. It would be nice to know which column in the budget is the problem. Teams don't pay much of the bills at the tournaments so I suspect it is player transactions digging the holes. Paying billets for the month of May with zero income can't help, but any teams who finishes above a survivor series also pays billets for 2 weeks with no income.
Hope all are enjoying the summer!!

I had a buddy who worked in the WHL for a while and we spoke about Junior teams back around the Weyburn announcement. The biggest thing he told me was 1) Advertising costs way more than you think, especially the traditional forms, so if teams want to advertise, it costs them. 2) Travel expenses are growing and growing, so even if teams don't necessarily pay for those trips to the tournaments, there's still costs involved. 3) Fan attendance is down, not without lack of effort around the league, for whatever reason, so teams are taking hits on ticket sales all over, even though Yorkton had made long playoff runs and everything. 4) Ice rental is stupidly high now, so a lot of teams have to deal with those payments every year.

New Assistant coach named in Melfort, heard on CJVR Dan Meyers. He's a hockey guy, not 100% sure on how high he played but was definitely a Jr.A guy. Had been coaching Wolfpack or AA Midget.

I think it would be really interesting to get a full transcript of all conversations concerning some trades, especially the deals that see a guy moved 2 or 3 times in 2 or 3 days. I wonder if it is ever that coach A and Coach B won't/can't make a deal so they get a third party to close it by being the middle guy? What do you think- does it happen that way? OR - I know you want someone you can't get, but I can get him so he becomes super valuable once he is on my roster?

what is the deal with this trade?
Battleford North Stars have traded Connor Vermeulen and a Player Development Fee to the Whitecourt Wolverines for Carson Pickett and a Futures agreement that Whitecourt Wolverines had with the Flin Flon Bombers from November 2014.

Well if I'm interpreting it right, the Wolverines had future considerations to give to Flin Flon from from a previous trade which the North Stars took. So maybe now the North Stars owe the Bombers future considerations?

I'm not sure.. Im just in shock that the stars were able to get Navrot for next to nothing... He's very good.
Here's how the trade went down..
trade 1: Surrey traded Jordan Weist to Portage terriers, portage then trades weist to Battlefords for Brock Weston.
Trade2: White court traded Pickett to Battlefords for Vermeulen, then Battleford's trade Pickett to Kindersley for Navrot..

Just a little reply as to reasons for terriers losing money on run to rbc title and with the numbers player transactions had little or nothing to do with it as the basic team was there for 2 years with few additions and those were made with trades and not buying as you may suggest. Some of the reasons for drops are because the terrier were favourites fans didnt come out for opening round of playoff and the final only went 4 games limiting the income. As Melfort can attest from this year yes its break even to go to WCC and royal bank cup for transportation food lodging but some other expenses dont go away billets for and extra month and winning canadian championship creates things like championship rings for players coaches executive etc so these two items alone were 50,000 over this year .I dont understand thinking of sjhl and this ongoing sage of WCC. Naninmo and Dauphin both lose money not sure what happened in fort mac this year so the teams that go there breakeven and host team loses money this all done to appease B.C and Alberta cause they thought they should have two reps in royal bank not just one so what has happened alberta out two years in row and sask and man winning rbc cups. So instead of man sask playing for anavet cup and taking in income during that run we support this WCC and wonder why teams lose money going out of province, maybe best thing is to lose in sask final and be able to show a profit.

Thats why the transcripts would be nice. You would actually know who a coached wanted to aquire and who is just disposable. Would add a whole lot of light on the coach player relations - Of course all bad so it should nt and wont happen. But it would be interesting.
Other topic - I am not starting a rumor but asking an question. Is the new Melfort Exec. Dir . Game day person the girl friend of Travis Mayan. Just curious. I don't have a problem with it, but it is interesting. If so will she stay longer than he does???

I'm floored by how Kindersley just continues to make moves. Coach Grimwood clearly has a strict plan and just doesn't care about the current roster.
