Wilton and Heath are off to Red Deer. Fauchoux accepted an offer to Concordia in Wisconsin. Lemire had 5 or 6 offers but didn't want to go to school. I'm not sure about the other graduating players.

Any comments on how Estevan is shaping up for the upcoming season? They look pretty good. Made some big acquisitions right after the season was over from futures deals, and they were active around the draft too. Should have a very good scoring team and if their defense stays strong they will be down right scary.

Melfort's back end will be solid with Palmer between the pipes and there two 20s and three 19s on D. If they can land both Lambert and Zary (both nearly 2 points per game last year in triple A) they will be solid contenders if not even the favourites again. MacDonald is a legitimate top 6 forward. Should be some great Nipawin/Melfort match ups again! I agree...it should be a great rivalry again although Palmer will probably be challenged a little more with the loss of Lemire and Heath on the back end. They ate a lot of minutes last season and it will be interesting to see how Young and Bergrren adjust to the increased responsibility with new D partners. I believe with a little more experience George is capable of taking over Boomgaarden's role. Sinclair could really be a difference maker for the Stangs. As for Nipawin, their returning D core is pretty solid. I like Doerkson's skill level and believe he will step up this year with increased ice time. Is O'Brien for sure not returning?

Obrien and Bross are not returning. Obrien to diabetes research and Bross to - posibly - the USHL, he wanted to play closer to home. All other players are said to be returning. So that makes about 7 holes to fill, 2 in net - 1 Dman graduated but they had 3 AAA players fill in last season all were comfortable to watch. and 3 forwards graduate. Caleb Seamen will fill one of those spots.

Melfort could be in tough this season losing Bricker, Hermary, Boutin, also heard Durham going to play closer to home as well. Lambert I believe has signed in the BCHL and Zary is undecided.

Bricker didn't suck. He had a great ability- problem was he only used it in 10% of his ice time! 80% of the time he was average and the other 10% was often used to make a real dumb play, dumb penalty or something that would loose his team the momentum. I would guess that is why he has been traded so many times in the SJ and Dub. He has potential and each new coach thinks they have what it takes to bring it out. His own words confess he didn't make Red Deer as a 17 yr old because he didn't prepare in the off season. He isn't mentally dedicated. Politally Corret term would be "focussed" But he IS a nice guy.

I don't think that is an entirely unique situation unless Melville is an absolute anomaly and completely below standard. It doesn't seem to me that many players really put in a whole lot of time training. It isn't entirely indicative of fitness level, but on occasion the vast majority of the team would show up at the gym together and it was very obvious who was totally out of place and more often than not it was the naturally skilled players. It is usually a case where a high metabolism and the busy schedule is enough to keep them in shape but there is an underlying reason a lot of these players don't show significant improvement through their junior career or move on to the next level. They just don't have the drive. Over the last decade I can't think of much more than a handful of Mils who spent much time in the gym while they were here, and almost all of them moved on to NCAA or CIS.

The story of the Bruins and Estevan minor hockey sharing an administrator is a great idea. Why hasn't anyone tried that before. I never thought of it but it sure sounds like a winning idea. Think of the improved communication and co-operation. All positves I would say. Until one organization gets out of joint because the admin-person spent 15 minutes working on Junior stuff while Minor hockey was paying the wage. Maybe more teams could streamline and improve from this model!!!

Yeah everyone in town has been really loving this so far. My friend has a boy in hockey and he said it's so much better than it used to be. The admin girl they hired is fantastic by the sounds of it.

The Hawks arre starting to show up arpound the arena with hockey school this weekend etc etc. Word is that they will of course loose the 4 grads, Obrien and Bross have chosen not to return and Hinson and Douglas were traded in the off season to Kindersely, I think both for futures. Word is everyone else is returning including Mignault and Spriggs. Spriggs is already here. Migs is said to be coming this week. As far as goalies, there are a couple here already and even though nothing has been be said there doesn't seem to be any concern around the organization. I feel it has been dealt with. OCnsidering the 4 grads weren't huge goal scorers ( except Coben) the Hawks should be expected to do very well this year. Of course time will tell.

Sounds like Brandon Arnold was real good in camp with the Swift Current Broncos....netted two assists in the intersquad game....wouldn't be surprised if he cracks that lineup....gonna get a long look there forsure....along with Seaman the Hawks also signed PA Minto forward Brett Harasymuk....he was a 40 point man here and played all season on the #1 line with Gunville and Gardener...finished the season with the Hawks on the taxi squad.....word from down south is that he has been working out since late April with Brad McEwen in Ochapowace and has packed on the muscle....he should be ready to step in to an SJHL role....Gonna be a battle I think between the Mustangs and Hawks for the division....I don't believe that Melfort will take off like they did last year from the start...but will still contend.....too good of players in the right positions not too....The Hawks are built for that ugly rink...and they will win a lot of games there.......without O'Brien its kind of a mystery in goal....although it sounds like they recruited heavy to fill the void....also an outside chance that Logan Flodell could return from Seattle....

A lot of people were surprised Melfort didn't do better in the WCC and RBC. Were the players distracted by being at the "big show" or was some of the leadership distracted, staying in a different hotel than the players, trying to be distant from the players so they could carry on with non-hockey activities that they knew could have negative affects on the outcome of the tournaments? My understanding is that this club has a coach and a different GM. Maybe the coach should coach and leave the trading alone!

For those that were surprised they obviously didn't watch the games. Melfort plain and simple wasn't as good as the portage, penticton or Carlton place. tied for 3 in the country isn't somthing to hang their heads about.

Your math is questionable - If there are 3 teams better than the Mustangs in the country they are not tied for 3rd. They wouod be 4th - at best. 3rd in western Canada could be a label but not in the country. So can you also say that a host team ends up 5th in the RBC and they are the 5th best in the country???
Melfort won the league, we all know that but they only went to the RBC by default. We all know that but some choose to ignore that FACT. We all also know Nipawin beat Melfort 4 times last season, that is about 3 more times than any other team in the SJ, and more times than any team in the country. They also went to OT 3 or 4 times. The Hawks also scored against the Stangs 5 times in 10 or 11 minutes. (I'll give ya 14 cause I don't feel like looking up the game sheet) so I hold onto the "fact" that Melfort won the league and Nipawin was far from the "terrible" you would like us to believe.
However you missed the point of the original post. This forum has various threads about the importance of the SJ turning boys into men with good leadership, role models and opportunities. If the coach WAS hanging out at a different hotel to hide something he failed at the "important" job. PERIOD.

So when two teams lose in the national semi final does that mean they tie for third or fourth?
The fact your choosing to troll on a topic in someone's personal life that you really know nothing about, other than rumours shows your true character. For the record the coach was at a different hotel in Fort Mac sharing a room with the team president. Not in portage.

There will no doubt come a day when Melfort finishes second to Nipawin (or third or fourth). I hope when that day comes that Melfort fans can offer congratulations and act in a professional manner. Melfort went 12 and 2 in the playoffs where both playoff losses were in overtime (1 to Weyburn, 1 to Nipawin). Melfort earned the second seed at the WCC even though they lost to RBC host Portage on Sunday in a game that meant nothing. They beat both eastern teams at Portage in the RBC only to fall short to the Terriers, the eventual national champions, on semi final saturday. That was unfortunate but certainly not an embarrassment or even a slight blemish on the scorecard. Personally I hope someone from the SJHL, even if it is Nipawin, wins the RBC this year as it is great for the league as a whole. Looking forward to a great year in the SJ!

Who's fault is it when the player doesn't do his part, over the summer, to be ready to play? Coach, kid, parents, locker room theatrics left over from the year before, all of the above?
