With some topics heating up on the forum I was wondering on who might make an impact like Garret Dunlop did last year with the Hawks.

This is a great topic, but hard to really discuss because so many teams haven't announced any signings yet. I would love to hear some names though.

Keep an eye on Coby Downs for the North Stars. Looked very impressive in their prospects camp Yup when I googled him the first thing that came up was "world class player"... 3rd top scorer at Macs Tournament with 10 PTS in 4 games.. Lead the California amature hockey association AAA league in scoring, then had 2 PTS per game in showcase league (NJPHL) and was also top scorer at The USA nationals qualifier tournament with 14 PTS in 4 games, and was named the player of the tournament and at Nationals was pt per game.. Then add in Layne Young,Troy Gerein, Connor Navrot and Tanner Nagel.. And then there are a few more "Surprises" as well.

Don't get to excited about the NJPHL it's not AAA hockey. It's mid level AA I'm sure a kid that dominated the league that way is very good, but the level of hockey is not. AAA here in the states is a bit of a joke unless you play in the HPHL or Tier 1 Elite.

I know 8 of the top 10 scorers from Saskatchewan were at the Macs tournament.. Few of them were pt per game at that tournament. That tells me it was very competitive.. To have 10 PTS in 4 games in a tournament with those kind of players speaks volumes of what kind of player he is.. The USA nationals qualifiers had some of the best aaa teams in California and other parts of the states there.. And to score 14 PTS in 4 games is phenomenal..

I'm sure the kids a good player but that league doesn't compete for Nationals with Honeybacked little Ceasers, Shattuck, CYA, the Mission etc... I watched teams from that NJPHL they could not compete AA teams from the US.
I'm not saying this player is bad I'm fully aware that good players play all over but don't look to far into his stats because the teams he played against were very very week

Because you are off with a few things... They actually do compete against those teams for nationals. Different pools but the same tournament (AAA U18 tier 1) There's actually a round robin at nationals with 4 pools... Downs played in pool B with the Ontario Avalanche AAA, Shattuck played in Pool A, Little Ceasars played in pool D, honey baked never made nationals, Chicago Young Americans never made nationals either... the only way they would play against each other would be in the finals but it was the same nationals, all the pools played against only there pool in the round robin. Here's the link nationals.usahockey.com/page/show/1661947-tier-i-youth-18uThe NJPHL games the Ontario Avalanche played were exhibition games against those teams.. From what I gather the Ontario Avalanche were not a part of that league, just played 8 exhibition games. I gather they were a travel team that played in different leagues the NJPHL one of them and the CAHA another as well. Then at the end of the year Ontario Avalanche played in the Pacific District Championship to qualify for nationals.. It was at this event that Downs had 14 PTS in 4 games... It would be similar to the Telus Cup regionals.. Pacific District Championship... nationals.usahockey.com/news_article/show/491781?referrer_id=715253

Thank you Stars 123. I must say I am shocked I've watched many teams from the NJPHL play over the years and all the teams are significantly weaker then top tier AAA teams. Perhaps out on the left coast they are getting stronger I know the Midwest teams that I've seen play are not. Not to say that they didn't have some good players but the drop off was very steep and the overall level of hockey was very week.
I would love to see tournaments where top end u16 teams from all the major leagues play. Say the top 2 teams from the SMAAAHL GTA OMH HPHL NJPHL etc...

Battlefords newest recruit, Nash Dabb is a player I am excited to see at camp.. He was phenomenal at the stars spring camp. Very good skater that sees the ice well. Was 2nd on his team in AAA in scoring, with over a pt per game. Assistant captain on his team and has had a cup of coffee in the BCHL. .97 pts per game in Aaa career. Hard to believe training camp is like a month away..

looks good but there is a big difference playing junior hockey in Saskatchewan and playing high school hockey in the states.
