Not a peep out of Weyburn yet this year so far, how are things looking there?
I'm curious what the deal is as far as goaltending goes. Phair and MacLennan are back. Levesque looks to be in the mix. Is Fleming not coming back or still just not healed from the shoulder injury? I have not seen Weersink mentioned yet at all, no preseason action, what is up there?

Not usually a big buzz here in town before the season gets underway. With all honesty people usually don't start paying really close attention until well into October around here. This is the norm , as a lifelong fan and resident. It's very much a " Let's see what we have when it hits the ice" kind of mentality. I've grown accustomed to it , because it's really impossible to know what you have. Not many at the pre-season games , which again is usual. I wish the local coverage was a little more in depth at this time of year , but I know they are going through a marketing / Social Media transition as well. Hope that explains it. Cheers
That being said , I would expect a good competitive club , but that's as far as I could gather. McCall has been leaving no stones unturned , let's see if they're the right ones.

That makes sense. I see Weersink finally got into a preseason game. I was really starting to wonder what was up with the goaltending situation. I figured Weersink would be reporting, based on getting his mask painted in a Red Wings theme. On that note, it looks darn good, and he has a tendency to sport some really nice custom setups so I'm interested to see what he is wearing this year. I'd imagine he's going to go into the season as their starter, I'd imagine they will carry 3 again at least until December 1st.

Just looking at the roster page for the Wings and it looks like they've got some monsters on the roster. Can any of them skate or is it gonna be old time hockey in Weyburn this year?

I hope they can skate. Speed wins in this league IMO, the rough and tumble style usually doesn't work come playoff time, need a good mix.

5 games in , 12 goals for , 14 against. Lets hope it really is a small sample size. Although the team plays good defence , has solid goaltending , once again it appears that they are going to struggle putting pucks in the net. If you can't score in this league, you won't make waves come playoff time. It's been this teams downfall for the past couple years now. Have to find that " guy" who can get you a big goal when you need it.... hope it improves.

What happened to Noah Wozney? Not around anymore and no word of a trade. I liked him. Thought he was a spitfire.

Nice little 5 game winning streak , good goaltending , but more importantly, they've been able to get the scoring itch scratched. Nice to see some crooked numbers on the score sheet after a slow start.

It has been better lately than I thought it would be. Disagree about good goaltending. Weersink had 16 rebounds go between the dots out of 36 shots. That's not good. That's dangerous. Lucky to still win when he's playing. It's the same every time he plays.

If the puck isn't going in the net , the goaltender is doing his job . IMO anyway.

IMO the Wings look to be 1 offensive forward away from being 3 lines deep and a real threat, making the league 5 strong teams deep Rookie of the week (Kazymyra) and the runner up (Kowalski) this past week and both have looked to be getting better each week 2 different D (Olson + Eskra) have been runner up to Defenceman of the week Hilts + Woodliffe are clicking and sneaking under the radar Solid goaltending and pretty disciplined play thus far Super strong 1st unit PP with Hiltz being added to it and a solid PK Tough 2-3 wks coming up with 4 in 5 nights and 3 in 3 but if they can battle thru ...watch out

The boys are looking sharp , 8 straight wins , 15 goals the past two nights , starting to create a heck of a buzz in town. Sample size is still small , but there's something to be excited about so far in Red Wing land.

They are hot. Phair is the top goalie right now. Good for him, he had some bad injuries last year. Beat some good teams.

Hat tip to Carter Phair , sorry to see a young man call it quits with such talent , but he put his life ahead of the game, a tough decision to make at any age let alone in your teens. He's been a tremendous Red Wing , especially in the community, ask any kid, he's their favourite Wing. Best wishes Carter, thanks for the professionalism in an amateur settingđź‘Ť

Well the Wings have done their part ,mostly , in the 1st half of the season to be in the conversation as a playoff threat. With the home and home after Christmas with the Bruins due up next , i think we'll see the beginning of what should be a heck of a battle for the division. When both Estevan and Weyburn are playing good hockey , this rivalry is a lot of fun. Hope the fans fill the rinks for these two games , energy should be high!

8 games in 8 weeks will create a TON of animosity and clearly define the Division Champ!!! Estevan is loaded with offense and 20 yr olds while Weyburn relies on their goaltending, Power Play and Rookies Definitely a contrast in styles You are right though...should be fun!!!

The red wings need a serious change... the don’t have anyone that can lay the body and the goaltending is horrific, the only goalie they play can’t control a rebound and can’t even track them

That seems like a bit of a hot take. They came out after the break flat as a pancake. The Bruins were geared up and ready and basically took the play to the Wings, outplayed them in every aspect. The Wings were not ready for the Bruins speed and puck movement. Full measure to them, they dominated. I wan to see if/ how the Wings rebound from a couple lackluster efforts before I start circling the wagons . A lot of time for redemption. But I will agree, if they play like this, it won't be much of a run come springtime.

Opponents look at the Weyburn bench and don’t see that guy who presents as a deterrent to getting close to the goalie. Phair gets a start against Kindersley and a Klipper gets close to him. Now the Wings are left with the goaltending described above and the prospect of having to score almost an extra goal per game in order to get wins.

I think in fairness to the Wings, they were playing a little above their heads early and injuries/retirement took that momentum away in December No one knew what this team would look like with losing 5 of their top 6 scorers from 2016 and having so many young, inexperienced players this season IMO they have been a pleasant surprise with great performances from some players : - 2 - 97 Dmen as Olson has been great most games offensively while Eskra give a solid performance game in and game out - Hiltz is having a great year that no one saw coming and is a burgeoning young power forward with 2 more years left (if a WHL team doesn’t grab him this year yet) - Kowalski has been about as consistent a first year player as you can find, production (leading all Rookies in SJHL scoring) and effort wise and only getting better. Never mind quarterbacking the PP with Eskra - Kazymyra has been dynamic from the red line in and if he can stay healthy is a super 1-2-3 punch with Hiltz + Kowalski moving forward - the young D core has been relatively consistent despite a lack of experience and the Wings can return 6 guys on the back end next season !!! - Sean Olson, Young, Pyne, Cruise all are getting valuable experience and should learn that necessary “toughness” moving into next year No idea what the goaltending looks like after this season but this team has a history of finding good ones If you said before the year that the Wings would be in the conversation for 1st in the Division and could slide into the top 6 and avoid a Survivor Series, wouldn’t that have been more than acceptable?! I know you have to move the “expectations barometer” when there is success but I see this team looking at finishing strong, getting some super valuable experience in compete level, toughness and preparation then making a real run at this thing next year and beyond

The Wings actually have 5 D who can return for the next 2 years. They potentially have their next goaltender playing AAA in Swift as he Cody L. is in his last AAA season.
