Riley Ashe-Melfort Zander Stewart - Nipawin Probably some we haven’t heard about publicly These players go to another “junior a” league with no compensation. This is bad enough to happen before the start of the season just wait until a team’s leading scorer or number 1 goalie leaves January 15 with no compensation. I posted this originally August 23 I was worried this sort of thing would happen. Could be tip of the iceberg for teams that aren’t competitive this year.

So big Buckburger will essentially finish his junior career playing a dozen exhibition games with a bunch of guys he barely knows. That sounds fun.

That sounds fun. and the games with the hawks were going to help him? I suspect there is more being done for Braxton than just playing out his Junior career in BCHL.... Ronan already has Div 1 NCAA..... whatever happens will benefit Braxton in some way. BCHL hands are not tied in anyway.... they will get something scholarship related for Braxton I am sure. if nothing else he will get a lot better exposure for the last 12 games and playoffs than he would have gotten in Nipawin..... Something has to be done regarding this BCHL thing..... no clue how or what but this is just the start of it I am sure....

Braxton came to Nipawin from Blackfalds in his rookie season after Blackfalds scratched him for the AJHL showcase.

Lol are the 5 teams who left the AJ actually playing for anything? Is the Alberta division of the BCHL instantly part of this seasons points race?

The Buckberger brothers never went to one of the teams leaving the AJHL. So not sure what you’re talking about playing in the Alberta division of the BCHL. They went to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Sitting in 2nd place in their division and 5th in the league. They both have more hockey to play than the Hawks. Unfortunate situation but I’m sure we’ll see more of this happening.

This is a smart move for Braxton, had to be done. Hawks have 14 or so games left? Alberni will have probably have 25 or more depending how deep they go in playoffs. He is now going to play with and against D1 players. Alberni's last game against West Kelowna had 30 D1 players in the game. If Braxton has schools looking at him, playing 20-30 games at that level is going to have a huge impact. Dont hate the player, hate the game. He has to do whats best for his future, especially as a 20 year old.

Maybe just maybe if he was good enough he’d of drawn interest in nipawin. Good luck playing div 1 when your not a stud in the sj.

Or did Braxton receive a div 1 commit, and I didn’t see it??? Either way to me it looks bad on both guys leaving. It’s going to happen a lot coming up, but this whole thing may melt down completely if the ncaa starts taking chl kids!

Earned a position in the SJ/MJ showcase and had ALOT of eyes on him in Winnipeg. Tell me where his opportunities weren’t established with Nipawin and the SJ?

Ya but it was Nipawin he was leading in scoring. So the best on a poor team. Kinda like saying that's the best looking turd in the outhouse.

Yes poor form bombcrew, note, it won’t matter whether you play for the bombers or the #12 team in the league, if that ruling passes there will be little to no chance of any player getting a div 1 out if the SJ.

Most of the players in bc with scholarships signed them before ever lacing it up in junior. Most of the Sj scholarships are earned playing junior

You are right but...I know a number of sj kids that didn't go major junior to keep there options open. Could they have went to other cjhl leagues...yes but chose not too. Exposure is better in the bchl but the best exposure is being a great hockey player and person. I am sorry but if you need to jump through hoops to get a partial Scholly, you will ride the bench for 4 years.

Maybe there will be more corroboration between major jr and jr a. Instead of sending top prospects down to aaa they use the kids jr a team if it’s a decent option. Aaa gets jr a cuts more

Not always the best idea to head there and get buried on an awful team and also put up a fraction of the points. Too bad when that happens and the players could still be shining on an SJ team where they broke out. Even better they get to a contender.

Alberni is far from an awful team. Will they get buried in that lineup? Depends on what they were promised I guess.

Small sample size but two games each and no points each. Ok it’s a tougher league maybe but I put my money on the fact they both still have zero penalty minutes. My conclusion would be very little ice time. Tough competition could stop these two from scoring while tough competition would cause these two to “infract”.
Black and yellow 5 of diamonds!!!!

Maybe there is something to it then…none of the players that left the SJ are shinning in B.C. Jag (9) Ashe (14), Kayter (16), Kim (now in Alaska in the NAHL) Stewart (13) Dutil (24). Give them a chance to get a few games in. They probably aren’t going to put up big numbers in B.C. just like the others before them. These guys all did well in SJ…can’t be a coincidence they all are “struggling” in B.C.? Bedard had 143 pts last year, he’s got 33 this year….guess he is buried on an awful team as well.

It all comes with opportunity. There was a kid that got cut from the north stars last year, he wasn’t very good and struggled. Goes to the AJHL and gets 33 goals and a div1 scholarship and is now leading his NCAA team in scoring. I guess these kids need an opportunity.
