If the team decides to go with Casey O'brien I think they would be making an excellent choice. He is certainly someone who brings instant credibility as well as league experience. I understand that he actually lives in Melville and commutes to Yorkton and his wife is a teacher here as well. Sounds like it would be an excellent fit all around. My only hope is that the team brings him only and then let's him pick an asst coach. I understand that he is a rookie but if he does make rookie mistakes I'm pretty sure people can live with that. I certainly hope that his hiring has nothing to do with bringing in Don Chesney. As bad as the last 2 years have been under Jamie Fiesel we also lived through a Chess era that was even worse. Never want to see him back here again. Getting quite anxious to see who the Mils hire. Certainly looking forward to sunnier days ahead for our team!

Casey would have been an obvious pick. The day after Fiesel got canned I did notice Ches was over visiting Casey. No idea what their working relationship is like but I wouldn't be surprised if some of these scenarios have been discussed.
I'm inclined to think that based on how long the search is taking, Casey simply isn't the guy they want. Considering the number of applicants and them only being down to an 8 man short list last week, I just don't see them going this far into the process if the guy that is already in Melville is going to get the job.

You never know.. They really have all summer.. No need to rush in to something and make a wrong decision.. They are probably doing there due diligence and researching every candidate.

They've stated a number of times that they want somebody in place before the bantam draft. So basically the decision will be made this coming week.

Makes sense. Also basically another week and teams can start signing players for the upcoming season.

They sure as hell don't have all summer, they need to be recruiting players all summer, unless they want another wasted season they need to get someone in place soon

After Fiesel was let go, who has been recruiting for the Mills?

They sure as hell don't have all summer, they need to be recruiting players all summer, unless they want another wasted season they need to get someone in place soon I agree. There might not be a whole lot of recruiting work to do yet, the wheels are still turning with Fiola and Lamberty filling the gaps right now. Might still have an opportunity to twist a few arms to keep them from heading West, but it sounded like there were a number of commitments after spring camp and the bulk of that work was done. But odds are good whoever the new guy is may have some connections or untapped resources, players on their radar that they'll want to try and bring in. Can't really allow that to go on too late into summer as most players already have a plan in place and probably won't be swayed on short notice. More concerning, to me at least, is that the longer the process takes there may be a couple top applicants that get hired elsewhere. If they are looking for work I can't imagine they all have their sights set on only this job. And even at that, just because they applied the top applicant may not accept the job based on whatever terms the team sets forth. Basically, it may not be as simple as saying "that's the guy we are hiring". The number of applicants is promising. Heck, the short list is almost equal to the number of applicants OCN (allegedly) had for their coaching job.

It would be nice to see Holcomb get another chance, he was young and green when he was in Melfort but did some really good things too.

Yikes. This situation was kind of what I alluded to on the 21st. Just because these guys all applied for the job doesn't mean they are going to accept the terms set forth in the job offer. Takes two sides to sign on the dotted line, and I don't imagine the executive has much in the way of persuasion money right now.

Well I guess he shouldn't complain if he has few players not report where ever it is he settles to coach!

Well a decision was made today on HC/GM. Unfortunately the guy they had chosen decided last minute he was not interested in the position anymore. Last 2 weeks are down the drain and they are starting the process all over. Looks like they probably won't have a HC/GM for the draft. I wouldn't think they'd have to start the process all over again.. They had to of had a short list of candidates.. If the first guy dropped out, wouldn't they just go to the next best candidate on the list? Sometimes the other candidate is better.. Look at Estevan a few years ago... Keith Cassidy got the job the other 2 guys that were short listed for the job were: Troy Leslie and Kevin Hasselberg.. Where's Cassidy now?? Leslie was hired a few days later in Virden and Hasselberg was hired in Battlefords.. Both Hasselberg and Leslie still have there jobs. And Cassidy is no where to be found on the coaching front..

Is it possible that the assistant coach from Alberta you speak of could of been Adam Manah? Cause last night he was named the head coach of the Sherwood Park Crusaders who he was the assistant coach for last season. I'm not saying he was but it could of been a possibility.. Makes sense why he would turn down the job, because he accepted a job where he was familiar with. This is just a guess...

I also know kyle Kaminsky was the original front runner for the job before they settled for the other 2. He is a churchbridge boy. Played a little pro. Was an Assistant coach under mike Babcock in the AHL for a year. Last year he was coaching junior B in the southern states in Louisiana or something like that. Decided last minute he couldn't take the job as much as he wanted it. One issue this new HC/GM is going to have is I guess fiesel guaranteed some kids a spot at rookie camp. All they were told was come to training camp for the juice and cookies and you got a spot. Now what if these kids show up and they don't fit the system of this new coach? "Sorry son we have to cut you." "Ya but I was guaranteed a spot." That's a tough situation. Don't you mean Kevin Kaminski not Kyle?

Well this is starting to make more sense with what I've been hearing. Initially the talk was their front runner has a very good resume with time south of the border. Then the talk turned to them deciding between an AJHL an SJHL assistant coach on Thursday. I was wondering what happened to that other applicant that sounded promising. So I guess that means 2 of their top 3 have declined the position.

Kids are guaranteed spots all the time and then cut after, it means nothing, especially when a new coaching staff comes in, they won't care about honouring a guarantee from the old coach

I've got to say I feel for the Mils and whoever Plan C turns out to be. This sort of thing happens all the time. But the leaking of this kind of information doesn't happen all the time -- for a reason.

Please, whoever breaks the news tonight, START A NEW THREAD! The Fiesel era is over and we are moving on, lets not continue the discussion in a thread dedicated to the old coach.
I was going to start a "Millionaires hire....." thread but I think it might have annoyed a few people being that it would have been an empty thread.
