I think Fiesel is to tight with the family run team to get fired. There needs to be house cleaning starting right from the scouting to coaching staff. But I don't see anything happening. Me, I think the problem started many many years ago when the Leafs sent the wool maple leaf jerseys to Melville ...

I wouldn't mind if Ipeecoy told more of the story about the wool jerseys. Must have been from before my time. What's the story? And how is the Mils office family run? Details here would be good too.

This is a joke. I have defended him and am at a loss for this season. He did a terrible job scouting and blatantly doesn't care about his guys that have been there. Ostertag not getting a top 6 role is a joke Mack, Bear, and Predichuck not getting moved to team where they could have a successful last year is insane and disrespectful to those players on a level that he should be embarrassed about. He recruited kids that are talented (skilled) but have no Idea how to play hockey!!! Their D zone play by the forwards is atrocious and they look like mites on the forecheck. He is refusing to change, allowing rookies who have earned nothing to waltz into top 6 roles How is this accepted by the board? He needs to go aand they need to trade their top guys and give them a chance to start the next chapter in their careers somewhere a college would actually like to see. I don't know why you would expect Fiesel to trade top guys prior to this point in the season? Maybe he's not writing the team off yet, like most of us are. I wouldn't expect him to at this point by any means. I would expect trades closer to Christmas though if this horrible start continues. As for Ostertag not getting a top 6 role, I can somewhat understand what you're saying about guys just walking into top roles...but what has Ostertag really done to warrant a top 6 role?

rm2188, the idea of trading players is to get the best possible return. so you figure a month into the season is the best time to move guys to improve your team for the future? and as far as i can recall, any player from the mils who finishes his career in melville in recent memory, has had the opportunity to go to school if he's chosen to. o-tag isn't a scorer, he isn't a hitter and he isn't a set-up guy. what makes you think he belongs in a top-6 spot on the team? what he is, is a good teammate and a hard worker, although marginally talented.

If the Mils lose both games to Yorkton, does the Mils executive have the gumption to relieve Fiesel of his coaching duties? At the moment if they lose both to Yorkton at the best they will be is 1-9. Right now they are 0-7 and really not showing any signs of improvement. Personally I believe it is time to cut ties with this man. Even if they win both against Yorkton I don't believe it is enough reason to keep him. All that would mean is that there is one team worse then us. We have heard the same ole song and dance too many times and as fans deserve better. I can't help but think he'll be retained and re-signed regardless of this season's outcome. Only way he leaves is if he elects to walk away. They are going to give him 2 more years just because he's "rebuilding" and he'll need to finish what he started. A dozen years and he has not learned anything. Too darn stubborn. And his comments on the radio today really show how much job security he has here. He talked about how if he wasn't a dual role guy he would fire the coach if he were strictly the GM and strictly as a coach he'd be really pissed off with the GM. I'm too young to remember, when was the last time the Mils fired a coach? I want to say the guy who preceded Steve Young and the name escapes me. Further to that, when was the last time a team kept the same coach for over a decade without actually winning anything? The leagues web site guy Mikey Stackhouse is even making excuses for Fiesel with 6/7 guys injured ... This should not come as a surprise. Stackhouse was the GX guy for a few years during Fiesel's tenure so he knows what the story line is. rm2188, the idea of trading players is to get the best possible return. so you figure a month into the season is the best time to move guys to improve your team for the future? I agree prior to this point would have been too early to start selling. But I think we are reaching the point of "everyone is available at the right cost". However, I don't have a whole lot of faith that Fiesel is going to get much value out of anyone. His trades seldom have a favourable outcome these days. It took a while but it seems like everything is coming to a head all at once. The changes to the playoff format and divisional realignment helped mask deficiencies for a few years. Fiesel has always been a buyer style builder rather that a system or foundation builder. He has a history of being unable to get viable prospects into the system (Ben Findlay, Dayton Reinbodt, Jordan Heywood, Owen Sillinger, Kyle Bird, and apparently now Colby Entz as well) or trades away top prospects (Dakota Boutin, Torrie Dyck, Kade Kehoe). He sold the farm in 12/13 only for it to become glaringly obvious for two seasons in a row that he was incapable of leading a team to a championship regardless of talent level. He said he wanted to change the culture of the team and rebuild the next season. But rather than actually rebuild, he started selling off futures before training camp even started. In this "rebuilding year" he brought in ten players via trade and had five rookies that were either 19 or 20 make it out of training camp. Thanks to the new playoff format, stars aligned and they made the league final only to not stand a chance against the Terriers. Kindersley had a great record that season, but if any coach in the league was more inept than Fiesel it was Rocky Zinger so it doesn't come as a surprise that they got past them in round one. The Stars were a bit more surprising, but goaltending became a huge factor and Plett was a monster. Had they faced either Yorkton or Humboldt in the semi they would not even have made the final. They entered last season and the one thing that bit them in the 13/14 final (lack of scoring) continued to haunt them. Again, recruiting was very heavy on 19 year olds/americans/junior b players, as well as a few in-season trades for depth guys. Lots of roster instability due to movement of WHL players. The defense was improved, and some stellar goaltending kept them just barely atop the weakest division. It became pretty evident by mid-season that the team didn't have the goods to compete. And by the end of the season it became pretty apparent that the team was offensively challenged. So here we are once again, largely recruiting 19 year olds/americans/junior b players and trading for more depth guys. I watched one camp session and knew the guy Fiesel named as his starting goalie out of camp did not have the mechanics or agility to be a starting level goalie in this league. His 8.35 GAA and .820 save percentage look stellar. We're finding out that the guys who couldn't score last year still can't score. They were the second oldest team in the league on opening night and they have barely hung with anyone, despite Fiesel's belief after 4 games that they could have been .500. He went as far as to say the "It's just for the naysayers to get excited about. They can have their time now, because in the end, they'll have to be quiet again". After the shellacking in Battleford and the loss in Kindersley he finally realized something was amiss and briefly took blame on the post game show before throwing the blame back at the players. Now he's starting to realize he's done pulling rabbits out of a hat and has a tough task ahead of him. The naysayer contingent is growing by the day as even long time supporters realize this guy just doesn't have it. Even the newer fans who initially supported Fiesel are starting to see what he's all about. It's time for a different brand of hockey, because if Fiesel is still on the bench when the puck drops next season I'm guessing there will be a 25% drop in season ticket sales.

Heard the coaches show on GX now Fiesel is talking that he needs to go younger and start rebuilding. What is this guy thinking. He is 0 and 8 for the season his team is awful. At the beginning of the season he must have thought this team would be a contender well was he ever wrong. I am not a Mil's fan but I will say this if the Terriers sweep the Mil's this weekend that makes the Mil's 0 and 10 for the season with close to 20% of the season gone and they will have no wins. I can't see Fiesel having a job after this weekend if they lose both.

Well Mils fans..I'm gonna take a stab at this...please correct me if I don't have this right...but I'm gonna try...since the 1981 season here is my list as follows:
1981-83 Stan Jenson fired after the 83 season 1983-85 Merv " Sonny " Famulak resigning before the playoffs in 1985 1985 to 1986 Mike Polonich took over from Famulak before the 85 playoffs, was fired after the 1986 season 1986 to mid 1988 John Migneault fired roughly midway in the 1988 season, replaced for the rest of the season by Ken Karius 1989 to 1990 Ken Karius fired after the 1990 season 1990 to 1992 Brad McEwen resigned after the 1992 season to take over the expansion Lebret Eagles 1992 to 1995 Don Chesney fired early in the 1995 season 1995 to 1995 see footnote * at the bottom 1995 to 1996 Perry Andrusiak resigned midway through the 1996 season to become asst GM of the Regina Pats 1996 to 2002 Steve Young resigned halfway into the 2003 season to become the asst coach for the MJ Warriors 2003 to Present Jamie Fiesel takes over midway through the 2003 season from Steve Young...
*Now the footnote....after Don Chesney was fired in 1995 there was a coach who the Mils hired that totally falsified his resume and references in a setup to be hired by the Team....I don't remember his name other than he came from Portage...he didn't even have coaching experience...it wasn't until the team was to travel to Minot that they realized he could not cross the border because a criminal charge...they did some digging and found that everything about the guy was a total lie...The executive led by Ernie Iluk was totally embarrassed by the incident..I believe he only lasted a couple of games but the damage had been done....the team immediately hired Seattle Thunderbirds and Foam Lake native Perry Andrusiak as coach and GM ...after the firing of the mystery coach Asst coach and GM Scott Bellefonaine took over as the interim coach before Andrusiak was named to guide the Mils...a very dark time indeed for the franchise...and unfortunately those days appear to be back again...if I'm wrong with any information please by all means correct me and if anyone knows of this mystery coachs name please share as well cause I sti can't recall his name...

Ches was let go after 0-9 or 0-10 in 95.
The guy who replaced him actually had relatives in Melville - his last name was Schwitzer - and his resume was stellar - Markham Waxers for one and a couple other OHL and AHL references. Sonny Famulak had a look at the resume and said this guy should be coaching in Toronto, not Melville. He called Barry Trapp about him and if Trapp hadn't heard of him - which he didn't - something was fishy. Sonny was the one who prodded the executive at that time to look deeper into it. Yeah they had the wool pulled over their eyes at that time.

Well I must say the answer to my question was a whole lot more interesting than I expected. I knew the 90's we a bit of a revolving door and had recollection of a firing with a bit of a story to it, but these certainly were not the type of details I had in the back of my head. Too young at that time to remember, and I'm not sure if I watched many games that season (think I saw a lot more of 96/97). Did this whole thing with Switzer get much media coverage or did they try and keep it as quiet as possible?

It got a little bit of coverage locally but it died down pretty quick once Andrusiak arrived from Seattle.... They were at the time a very mentally drained hockey club and those kids had a lot to deal with being that Ches was such a popular guy and they probably had the guilt of letting him down still fresh in their minds and then boom...then this joker pulls this stunt off...those kids were pretty shell shocked for awhile...everyone felt bad for them and the organization ...with Andrusiak leaving the next season as well it took a bit for them to get some stability back in the franchise.....Steve Young played a big part in that in my opinion....Could there be déjà voux once again...time will tell...my opinion though ....Fiesel has those executive in his back pocket....and not only will he not get fired...he will get a 2 yr extension ....mark my words...

I don't know that you can fire a guy in today's sjhl, especially if your team lost a significant amount of money last season. besides, i don't think hiring a guy at this point of the season gives you anything more than an interim guy and to me that just sounds like more money spent. let him play out the string and move on seems more realistic and more sound from a dollars standpoint.

Depends on the contract. Melfort only had to buck up for a months pay when they let Holcomb go. I'd do whatever it takes to make a change. What's the point of giving him a mercy season of making trades or roster moves and recruiting if he's leaving.. Time to make the move in Melville.

An eight nothing shellacking tonight. 0-9 to start the season. If this doesn't get this man fired I don't know what will. No scoring, no defense and no goaltending. There obviously was no effort in the off season to go find any decent players. This man does not deserve to be part of this organization any more. Not that he really cares anyhow. Do everyone a favor and FIRE his butt.

It seems general consensus is to let Fiesel go but a stumbling block is that the organization can't afford to. To be honest you can not afford to keep this man. More and more fans are becoming disgruntled with the way the executive is running this team and to do nothing is sending the wrong message. If you keep this man you will lose the fan base and then what happens. This team is already in trouble financially. Losing the fan base by keeping this man could be the final straw. Have heard from more then a few season ticket holders that if nothing is done they will not be renewing their tickets. Executive step up to the plate and let this man go. Better yet Fiesel do the right thing and resign.

Better yet Fiesel do the right thing and resign. If he was planning on walking away after this season anyway, it would likely be the best direction for the team if there is a good candidate that can step in by December. That would allow some time to assess the team and determine what moves need to be made before January 10th. Might as well let the next guy be in charge of the direction of the team since about the only players that Fiesel trades for that actually report are scrap heap players. And if he actually intended on walking away, the mess he's got the team in looks even worse. Can't see it helping his case in finding employment elsewhere.
