Don’t quote me because I don’t know if I remember this correctly but I believe the helmet Kamloops gave him can’t be bought off the shelf and it is “concussion proof” meaning that the cage sits higher so that pucks cannot slap directly on the forehead and the whole helmet is full of angles so that the puck can never hit squarely. It solved the problem anyway because he didn’t get anymore concussions from pucks after it. It was a thicker shell and sticker padding than the old one he got in midget.

Just looking at a few more pictures, it looks as though he may have spent his last season wearing a Bauer 960, which I would agree with is a better mask than anything in the NME lineup. I'm not at all sold on the build composition of the NME masks. The 960 has been a flagship mask for Bauer for almost 30 years, going back to the days that they were built by Dave Wright. The design has been mimicked to some extent by a lot of companies. Masked Marvel, Coveted, Fusion, Otny. Despite that, I feel that Bauer's product quality is slipping as they push production overseas and cut production costs.
But again, a lot of this goes back to a change I doubt we'll ever see: CSA becoming more inclusive of small companies by changing their system and not being so cost prohibitive when it comes to safety.

All the helmet talk is great and WOW there are some extremely knowledgeable equipment guys in this forum , but let’s be honest ...the “Hit List” is what will garner the most interest without question

I’m not sure what to think of this situation about the Phair sub committee hearing in Ottawa. Calling out a coach cause he had a hit list is mind blowing. My thought is ‘Slapshot’!! What does everyone think of Tom Wilson, Brad Marchand, Claude Lemieux? Players are at risk every time these guys are or were on the ice.
My thought is parents should be thinking twice before they sign their kids up to play sports. We are at risk everyday to get hurt, every time a player steps on the ice or field there’s a 50/50 chance of getting hurt. Goalies are always going to get bumped incidentally or intentionally. Look at all sports, hockey in goal mouth area lots of contact. Lots of contact near the goal line in football, biggest collisions in baseball are trying to score at home or steal second. Fans at a golf event know theirs a chance to get hit by a errant tee shot. We signed up to play an awesome sport but it sucks that ppl get hurt. Everyone knows there’s always that risk.

So yur taking a coach that may/may not have done the unthinkable and inexcusable at this or any other level of hockey and relating that to all sports and parents decisions to allow kids to play them ?! Big leap If this is proven a substantiated claim it will mean wide spread change in the CJHL and every other Jr league frankly That coach will never be allowed to work in the industry again and the SJHL will have a dark stain on it as a league It hopefully will have no affect on whether a young man/lady is to play any sport, especially hockey That should be an enormous leap in conclusion making IMO

The physical contact with goalies is certainly a concern worth addressing. I'm actually surprised there aren't more knee and groin injuries considering the modern stance and style of play. And beyond that, goalie masks are primarily designed to deflect and dissipate impact from pucks. They don't handle side or backplate contact well like a player's helmet would due to the blunt surfaces. If such a hit list was proven, I'm sure crap would hit the fan. But I don't imagine anyone would speak up about it. I missed your post yesterday, I'm guessing we were typing at the same time. Just to hit on a few points, the concussion proof would be nice but probably not entirely achievable. Modern masks are mostly well designed to minimize the possibility, but the risk still exists. If I'm correct on being a 960 your post would be somewhat correct, by design the front facing portion of the mask does an excellent job of reducing the odds of a direct blow (provided the goalie is squared to the puck). It is also a bit thicker shell than the NME line and has been a more traditional fiberglass and Kevlar layup. The NME is mostly carbon fibre, and the recently released 960XPM also now has a carbon outer layer. Also of note, it's unlikely to me that the mask would have been unavailable for retail purchase, and that would typically mean it wouldn't have the CSA approval I spoke of previously. WHL, to my knowledge, adheres to those rules fairly strictly. As far as masks go, there is one hobbyists working on a more concussion resistant mask. Both for shots as well as body contact, by being almost entirely rounded except for the chin. It's ugly as all heck, but he might be on to something. www.onezeegoaliehelmet.com

Time for a coaching change.I realize we don't have a board that has the balls to make the change. They just make excuses .We are a team just going thru the motions and have zero drive.Tonight we looked like a midget team playing a junior team. The last 2 games we jump out to a 2-0 lead then fall asleep with no drive. We had one hit from the 8 minute mark of the first period.

I agree, time for a change, fans are getting frustrated & tired of it. Pretty soon there won't be anybody in the stands, its getting pretty empty already.
Lots of talent there, but have looked like a midget team playing a junior team i agree.

I heard this team has had quite a few injuries earlier in the year. Most of the players are probably counting the days down till they go home for xmas to recharge. I expected the wings to be better with the team they have on paper.

A couple of players have played very well in spite of the issues and frustration Carson Scheschuk has been quite good and improved immensely over last season. Really like his game so far Riley Lamb has been quite good in flashes (when he’s not distracted and frustrated) and won the Wings a couple games Single handedly Cade Kowalski has been everything advertised and more but often has been alone. His skills are more bent to the elite passer than scorer but there has been no one to set up far too frequently 83 goals for and he’s been in on 39 so far Connor Pyne looked like a burgeoning Power Forward until the injury bug derailed his season. Hope to see him back Far too many passengers on the bus Need more drivers unfortunately Definitely a huge disappointment so far

Second last in the league now. Big yikes. What do you think they’re gonna do to try and save this dumpster fire of a season now?

What can they do??! It certainly looks like a reset for next year to me Get a boatload for the couple premium assets you have in Lamb and Kowalski, good returns on Olson, Soar, Anderson and get some valuable experience and play time for the younger guys you acquire Am I missing anything else they can do now??

I think Kowboy is exactly right. I think Olson can flourish in the right situation ..I would have him as a high return value on him as well as Soar. As much as it has been a difficult year they are in a great position to be sellers. They have valuable assets across the Board and there could be as many as 9 other teams in this league alone looking to add parts. In addition they have some very good 18 and 19 players as well so with additions they could have a bright future.

Wow that team is a inigma..i believe from when i watched them on a north trip that each of their 20s bring value to a situation..think maybe where the let down was thinking that your 19 yr olds that had decent point production last year as 18s were going to tear the league up. Scoring on avg at what, 2 goals a game is not going to cut it. Looks like their 5 on 5 goal production is miserable. Tells me too many soft fwds not getting to dirty areas to score..the best part of the team and most consistent has been their back end..and looks like now with addition of a 20yr old offensive minded player they have improved again. I said in past if your there to score dam well score, if your there to defend..do it..think the ones that are there to score need to pick up their end..scoring on pp isnt enough..need to score even strength as well..oh well least i battleford to watch ,, lol

Protect center ice all you want Weyburn, it got owned by the Bruins last year and you wont get it back.
I wonder if the Weyburn player will be suspended for pushing an official at the end of the game.

What now for the wings? If Lamb really does return does the team take him back? Or do they trade him to a contender and build for next year? I for one am not a fan of a player leaving cause of a disagreement with the coach, but I don't know the circumstances so I'll leave it at that. If this was my team though, I'd hit the resart button, first off I would start at the back end!! Soar would be moved for a younger more solid defense man. I would also move a few more forwards to bolster the back end. Levesque looks like he'll be a decent guy moving forward, and that's really IMO were this team need to start. Goalie...defense...then forwards. Defense wins championships, and that's the style of play the wings need to build on. They have the pieces to move, and the rebuild would be very quick. Lose Kowalski for nothing will hurt this team moving forwards for next year. I'm sure the fans would be willing to ride the season out watching some younger recruits gets there feet wet for next years run. IMO if this team stays status quo, it'll be a slower rebuild, and that'll hurt them in the long run. Hope it works out for the wings fans!!

Well i hope things turn there. I agree you can never make judgements from outside the walls of a dressingroom.i also agree with nit respecting players that leave if not getting their way, kinda shows the im bigger than the team attitude. As for reset, its fine to bring in young recruits for next year. But you still need the rite 20s in room to mentor in the rite fashion..its called creating culture..i would try n keep the character 20s, ones that work their asses off in practice and games, bring their asset to each game, positive guys..thats creating. Culture

Culture I’m not a fan of quitters. They usually bring that selfish me mentality into the room wherever they play. I look at some of the Broncos recent acquisitions, although talented, bring a imbalance to the room. Ship your problems out for what you can get(or just send them home ) and bring in young players who really want to play .

Very true on dressing room balance, from the bit ive seen of this team, more last year than this mind you. Ive always thought their backend was fairly good, nice mix. Their young 18yr old goalie in time n playing experience could be one of leagues top. I think its up front where the link was broke. Think ive said this b4, you need to score more goals than 2 a game. They seem to score 1 or 2 on pp a game, but you have to be way better 5 on 5. When i cought them this year, looked like their D were always moving puck up ice but fwds were constantly turning over pucks in the 5ft zones..either their blue line or attacking blue..usually by soft plays.. Never got any sustained pressure in ozone because of this..and in turn when you turn over in those areas, the outcome is usually odd man rushes agsinst you. So if my team im not touching back end, and im letting young goalie play n develop. Up front is where im tweeking, you really wanna make sure you have the rite character going fwd..battle n determination..i look at kindersley play, they just simply out work n play gritty, do a lot of the little things rite that keep oppo ents on heels..

just seen the Kowalski thing..was typing my novel..lol..they made a huge mistake by naming a 19yr old captain..i dont care how many points..but if you wear the C ..you gotta be a follow me guys ill show the way..that always doesnt mean points..this is no knock on him, just think he was put in a tuff spot after a successful rookie year, with a scolorship in place he needed to be able to concentrate on his game n not worry about being the leader
